spike1 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 dont know if this should be on look in your box but here goes circa 1974/5 i am sure that i had a promotional one sided floppy style vinyl of the gordens gin advert theme tune as i was only 15/16 at the time it was pre my allnighter days. One of the older guys who i knew said it wa played at wigan i never heared it played there but i did not go to wigan until the summer of 1976. can any one shed any light on this for me? i cannot even remember how the tune goes! its just that someone on soul source mentioned it and it got me thinking thanks spike

John Al Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Try and do a search on Gordons Gin Theme Spike, we were talking about this a few weeks ago but I can't find it now, theres definitely a discussion about it Meanwhile, yes, I remember it played, both at Wigan & Yate. Think emi discs were taped from cinema ads and after a while, Gordons cottoned on and issued a limited number with a spoken intro "Everones's asking about this sound, what is it, where does it come from? Well here is the sound brought to you by Gordon's Gin!" .....or something similar. Sure I posted this before somewhere................ John.
spike1 Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 it did get played. a john vincent play i seem to remember. thats interesting because john vincent used to come to the record shop where i and my mates "helped out " instead of going to school he used to come saturday mornings with loads of other older guys after they had been to sammanthas in sheffield or cleethorpes perhaps thats where and when i heared it i dont know how i aquired the copy but its got me thinking that before the floppy disc one of us had it on a cassette spike
Mark S Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 There is a version of the Gordons Gin tune on an early Human League album called Travelogue IIRC.

Godzilla Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Don't think the previous discussion mentioned that it's actually a Jeff "War of the Worlds" Wayne composition. He's actually done some cracking theme tunes and advertising music. If you spot a 45 of his version of "Apes Shuffle" from Planet of the Apes grab it. Totally whups the original version by Lalo Schifrin.
