HI,

ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE TUNE AT THE START OF THE WIRE IS CALLED,

IS IT AN OLD TUNE OR ONE WRITTEN JUST FOR THIS SERIES ??,

ANY INFO PLEASE,

THANKS,

JOE.

scuse me diving in here, I love off piste music queries on SS [ bit sad I know ]

the tune is an oldie, called ' way down in the hole '

the Wire has a policy [ well up to series 4 ] , of keeping the song as it's theme but changing the artists

series 1 - tom waits

series 2 - blind boys of Alabama

series 3 - neville brothers

series 4 - domaje

I'll now get my coat

It's a Tom Waits song from his Franks Wild Years album. I thought this series version was the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, but previous post suggests different. Great song

Mike,

I would agree with you actually. I'm more confident about getting the artists right, rather than the order in which they appeared.

Anyone reading this, I'd rely on Mike more than me !

Mike is right - Five Blind boys on series 1, then Tom Waits.

I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Tom Waits sing it live in Paris last year - awesome stuff!!!

Just watched episode 7 - series 1 and Steve Earle does a cameo - playing a reformed junkie!!

Mike

There's a great scene when you see the middle aged homicide detective 'Bunk' get out of his car shot from quite a bit away, and he is popping a few old school soul train moves, as the camera gets closer you can see and hear that he is singing and dancing along to 'Backstabbers' playing on the radio !!!

THANKS A LOT FOR REPLYS,

I'M ONLY ON SERIES ONE SO I'VE GOT THE OTHERS TO COME IF I STICK WITH IT,

JOE.

Do stick with it, the best thing i've seen on t.v. in a long time!

Watched all the 5 series recently on dvd (best way to watch it) and believe me, it's worth watching. thumbup.gif
