Okay - thanx for that Andy, at least that more-or-less confirms my sentiments as to the Mr 'Dave' Daye, BUT.. Your comment naming the Power labels' Sonny Daye as Frank Wilson - please excuse me for being a bit slow on the uptake (somethings NEVER change.. ) but I just need to clarify things - to make sure I get them right (for the benefit of any future reference).

Am I right in taking your comment refers to the legendary Frank Wilson synonymous with Detroit ?? or.. are you referring to Frank (E. ??) Wilson (from the west coast - L.A. ??). I'd always (albeit) 'assumed' the west coast Wilson (I refer to) was more conducive with the Power labels output ?? If I do have that a bit wrong.. does that THEN mean Mr F Wilson (Detroit) & Mr F.E. Wilson are, in fact, one and the same person ??

Sherlie Matthews.. can I ask/confirm - is it she of Atlantic output fame ?? (..and Mirwood !?!) ?? HEEELP !!

" Sherlie Matthews dated and fell in love with Frank Wilson, a fellow singer and potential record producer, whom she had known for years. The wrote songs together, and Frank recorded one of their efforts "Long Long Road to Happiness" on the local label Power Records under the pseudonym of Sonny Daye.

They performed together as an act, and Sherlie made her first record when Power Records released a single by "Sheri Matthews and Sonny Daye" titled "Come Back to Me".

Frank got a break by joining Motown as a writer and producer and he subsequently introduced Sherlie around and she was signed up as a singer/songwriter/producer.

She was to forge an extremely successful Motown career - with record production and songwriting for The Jackson Five, Martha & the Vandellas, Diana Ross. Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops and The Supremes.

Sherlie joined the Mirwood label, and became a real powerhouse behind the scenes of this household name label. "Bob and Earl" were responsible for 12 of the 36 single releases - either jointly, separately, or under pseudonyms. But Sherlie was also responsible for a huge chunk of the labels output in 1966 and 1967, both from her own group The Belles, and through writing for and producing Bob and Earl, Jackie Lee, The Mirettes, The Olympics and Bobby Garrett."

to clarify he is Frank Edward Wilson .. you can find a bit more detail on his move from LA to Detroit in the piece I did for John Manship about the auction of 'Do I Love you'

I remember when Sherlie was appearing at one of your weekenders. You'd not heard of the "Come back to me" track and I played it to you on the Sat afternoon on the vestax. You smiled and said that I should make sure I take the record up to her after her performance - purely for your selfish gratification to see the look on her face. I did so and the look you'd anticipated was accompanied by a matching scream of surprise. One of the nicer moments with a nice (albeit possibly secretive story - back then) regarding both artists to boot.

To think I nearly sold it back to Ady Lupton tut tut tut

And Sherlie ain't Shirley Matthews on Atlantic, I think she was a Canadian.
