Reforee Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Hi all you trainspotters, matrix number crunchers and generally good old soul boys(and gals) who know a thing or two about SOUL Music I need help on a singer named Roy Smith? He appears to be quite spread out on a few labels so I was wondering if you can help by posting what tracks and labels, numbers etc or general info you have on him, that you have in your collections/books etc. In case they are 2 or more Roy Smiths I am assuming he is the same one on United Artists,Vanguard,Delphi to name a few. I would like you all to name everything you have even if its obvious please. Many thanks Dave Halsall Edited April 4, 2009 by reforee

Ady Croasdell Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I've got an unissued acetate on him that turned up in Vienna! I'll dig it out it's called Stop Sign a nice crossover sound. He also did the Prophets 'I Got The Fever' and was the Georgia Prophets too.
Guest djrockinray Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Better late than never! LOL. Roy Smith.......Roy was a good friend. I met him in the mid 1980's while working in Augusta, GA USA. Roy was a super talent. Roy had written so many songs, even he had trouble remembering them all. Roy as refered to by his friends as the "white Ray Charles". Backing up a bit, let's look at how Roy got where he was. First, he recorded for Liberty Records in the early 60's with a tune called "Laugh It Off". Though Roy was from Virginia, he called Augusta, GA home. He played with various Augusta bands in the sixties. Roy was also a super talented keyboardist. Roy like many artists fell into Alcohol abuse. It nearly killed him at the time. After the 60's, Roy continued to record with various bands and artists. He's best known for his work with Billy Scott & The Georgia Prophets. The Delphi Label? That is Roy's creation. All his compositions were published with Henry Jerome Music. Sadly, soul fans will never get to hear all his incredible music. Roy was awaiting the release of his new album with the Augusta band Magic when he suffered a heart attack in the late 90's. Roy was in his early 50's
Prophonics 2029 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 He also recoded on Delphi as The Oxford Knights.
