Ady Croasdell Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 A couple of years ago had 2 copies of "Roy Hamilton - Let The Music Play" on Adey C's "Kent" label. These were large centre hole, black & white labels, 4 Diamonds design, even with Kent address - I assume they weren't legal, but haven't seen any copies since, anyone shed any light. Des I think it may have originated from a bloke with a dodgy syrup in one of the countries in North America. He used to sell a lot of Island soul to old West Indians who went mad for this track.
Guest Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) The Val Palmer track was on an album called "Tamla hits" on UK Redifusion - I used to have it But Ian Levine used to play it at the Mecca and I am sure it was a US 45 he was playing - even though it was a UK album they were all US recordings Val Palmer is listed in JM's book as a US 45 The Val Palmer USA original has a black label and was pressed in vinyl. It does exist as a USA 45, although I haven't seen one for an age, 15 years or more. Perhaps someone could put a scan up. Edited April 16, 2009 by john manship
Guest Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 possibly 'Hit Records' ??? I have it on yellow 'Twin Hits' - flip to 'Uptight, Ritchie Brown' (which is also a boot according to a previous thread on this one) it was Twin Hits - black label, silver text may jog your memory, heavy vinyl if i remember correctly.
Jerry Hipkiss Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) it was Twin Hits - black label, silver text may jog your memory, heavy vinyl if i remember correctly. John, is Twin Hits related to Hits in any way, as Ritchie Brown came out on that? Also Black with silver writing - not that that means a lot! Edited April 16, 2009 by Jerry Hipkiss
Guest Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 If anyone has the rare coloured bootleg of Edward Hamilton - BDYW - I'd like to buy a copy or loan one to document and scan. I'm willing to pay £30 website credit to borrow it for a week. PM me if you can help. John

Pete S Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 here's the boot How odd, I always thought this was on a black label styrene bootleg?
Godzilla Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 How odd, I always thought this was on a black label styrene bootleg? It is. I think that's a later pressing. Reboot?
Guest Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 How odd, I always thought this was on a black label styrene bootleg? i'd be more than happy if you told me it wasn't a boot Pete I got this record nearly 30 years ago for the Ritchie Brown side. Recently put a scan up in another thread and was informed it was a boot, that's pretty much all I know about it

Liam2005 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 The rarest boots (re-issues/pressings) Combinations - whatcha gonna do - kellmac (could be the rarest) gwen owens - wanted and needed - velgo lou pride - coming home in the morning - suemi
Pete S Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 The rarest boots (re-issues/pressings) Combinations - whatcha gonna do - kellmac (could be the rarest) gwen owens - wanted and needed - velgo lou pride - coming home in the morning - suemi Lou Pride reissue is about as rare as a Disco demand copy of Footsee, there must be at least 4 different Suemi pressings of it (Blue, blue different design, white, yellow) then there's a legit reissue and also a Goldmine one.
Guest wigan bob Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 This is probably a little off topic. A friend of mine gave me this when he sold up a few years back which I kept to play indoors. Does anyone know how many of these were cut. Where they came from? Cheers KevThe_Mell..._acetate.jpg shifty
Rich B Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) Fairly certain I had a Val Palmer Twin Hit - and not a styrene boot!. Edited December 26, 2013 by Rich B
Frankie Crocker Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) Most of the records mentioned in this thread were pressed in large quantities in the 1970's. Many sold in hundreds via Keith Minshall in his balcony stall at the Casino. No way of telling how many have survived but the number for sale at any given time reflects commonality rather than rarity. Lennie Curtis doesn't crop up often but that could reflect the original is pretty hard to come by. The Dennis Edwards reissue from a 1990's Detroit source probably turned up in fewer numbers like it's contemporaries as potential demand had shrunk. Any reissues selling for juicy prices eg Magicians on Chartmaker probably reflect the scarcity of the real thing rather than rarity of the reissue. Edited December 28, 2013 by FRANKIE CROCKER
Frankie Crocker Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 To me my fav has to be the Eddie Foster Do I Love You (indeed I do) IN records IN6326B black label? with all the differant boots and 3 differant TMGs the initial boot is still a classic of Memory Lane at the CASINO?Have you got a copy? DAVE KIL Yep and it's a keeper. Still prefer it to Frank Wilson's edition...
Chris L Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 It has crossed my mind several times, as to just which re-released track or tracks are the hardest to find, and most expensive. I have many of the old classics bought in the late 70's, so have a kind of interest. or are they all worth pennies? Nolan Chance - Just like the weather - Bunky 1
Quinvy Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Rufus Wood - Before 2001 - don't see many about nowYou won't. They are all being played as originals by Dj's who can't afford one with the blue print. 2
Guest gordon russell Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 nate evans and bus......nate evans and the mean green
Guest gordon russell Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I dunno either. Simon kept his modus operandi very close to his chest. I just know he'd be down @ Monarch every other week picking up his 'legal reissues'. I think PB was either a 'front' company or possibly even the guy who mastered the records..........? Ian D he also did salvadore, gto's,george blackwell and a couple of others.....they were very good almost akin to forgeries
Wiganer1 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 jimmy seals - on uk FLM ....released in the stafford era...poor sound quality also had girl girl girl and the ravin mads but very seldom turns up
Dazdakin Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 young blood smith - walk on baby - soul world proper rare bootleg, probably rarer than the verve original dazz
Pete S Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 young blood smith - walk on baby - soul world proper rare bootleg, probably rarer than the verve original dazz Been on the pop Dazz? It's worth about £10. I think there's one from the 90's on a blue Verve issue, thats 10 times rarer than Soul World.
Guest Budgie Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Was this pressed with the instrumental on other side. If so wouldn't SS need the original tapes? Yep and it's a keeper. Still prefer it to Frank Wilson's edition...
Sean Hampsey Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Was this pressed with the instrumental on other side. If so wouldn't SS need the original tapes? No; same flip as the Soul label copy "Sweeter as The Days Go By" Sean
Guest Paul Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 If bootlegs count the rarest "reissue" is probably a 45 which was pressed and "confiscated". I can't think of any examples but didn't that happen to the Chuck Cockerham record ?
Frankie Crocker Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) No; same flip as the Soul label copy "Sweeter as The Days Go By" Sean Cheers Sean. Thanks for fielding this. Am on the road at present, the Christmas triangle that involves spending time at everyones' houses except your own... Edited December 28, 2013 by FRANKIE CROCKER 2
SHEFFSOUL Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 i assume some of the ootp pressing are rare..i doubt those all listed were actually pressed..but some must be scarce..

Guest Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 what about the green light label from the late 60s i think roscoe robinson was on it dont seem to turn up much now
dthedrug Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Yep and it's a keeper. Still prefer it to Frank Wilson's edition... HI ALL..FRANK, Back in 2009 I posted my thoughts about The Frank Wilson since then I have sold my copy to a top dealer for £40 as he had a customer who wanted it, and this has set a bench mark for the going value of this 1st pressing under the name of Eddie Foster, However the top rarest bootlegs that I have are the SOUL SOUNDS white label pressings of 69-70, & the Ambassadors on JOX all UK pressed Bootlegs from the 1960s are much rarer than any US pressing, but the price may not correspond to the 45 DAVE K 2
spot Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Salvadores stick by me baby Wise World 1st green boot (no dimples !) proffesionals coloured wax Belgian/Dutch ? boot ! both hardly turn up and are sometimes sold as originals ! Found mine in the loft after a long while away & gave it to Snowy as a prezzie, I didn't need it anymore & even though an excellent one it was still a boot. Spot.
Tony A Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 what about the green light label from the late 60s i think roscoe robinson was on it dont seem to turn up much now Had one of these, Roscoe on one side, Platters, Sweet sweet lovin on the flip. never seen another.
