Ady Croasdell Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 That I got out of Bleeker bob's in NYC before we knew who it was and sold to Keb for future stardom. Also someone told me the label was owned by a multi millionaire business family; does anyone remember the details?
Jaco Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Is it Toby Jackson? This is the detail that appears in R & B Indies although the book shows the group as "The Movements"

Also someone told me the label was owned by a multi millionaire business family; does anyone remember the details? the label was run by the mizell brothers and freddie perren. there are details about how the label formed on the wax poetics 45 reissue. you can hear the story of the moments on hog in my mark greene interview. they later evolved into the leaders on volt.
Ady Croasdell Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 Thanks everybody, it was the Wax Poetics I got told about I'll give your broadcast a listen Bob. That may not be right Jaco but if I can get hold of the Mizells they will be able to tell me who else was involved. Do you know who has the acetate now Soulman 1964? You possibly? Cheers Ady

boba Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 (edited) Thanks everybody, it was the Wax Poetics I got told about I'll give your broadcast a listen Bob. That may not be right Jaco but if I can get hold of the Mizells they will be able to tell me who else was involved. Do you know who has the acetate now Soulman 1964? You possibly? Cheers Ady The back of the wax poetics 45 reissue has a writeup based on interviews with the mizells (there was also a previous writeup in wax poetics in a mizell interview but it left off details). The mizells don't remember anything about the group except that they went to Stang and Stang switched up the lineup. It says this in the back of the 45 reissue, which is later and contradicts the previous wax poetics article saying the group had nothing to do with the stang group. Talking to them probably won't give you more info. Greene gives more details -- he met the group at Edgewood right after they recorded the single, they went to Stang, recorded the first moments singles not on the outside and I'm so lost, then Stang switched up the lineup. One of the Hog group members remained in the Stang group for a couple more singles. There is a picture of the Hog group with Mark on Mark's webpage. Edited March 31, 2009 by boba

Steve sold it to Paul Everton (?) or maybe Keith Williams ... Keith will confirm one way or the other I did hear that Paul had all of his records destroyed so it might be dead now Andy
