Jaco Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 The Pendelum thread has made me think about how the week panned out (back in the day). For me and the other lads from Rochdale/Heywood the week was made up of: Monday - Halifax Tiffanys Tuesday - Burnley Cricket Club Wednesday - The Magnet,Oldham Thursday - The Blue Room,Sale Mecca Friday - The Pendelum Saturday - Blackpool Mecca/Wigan Sunday - Crash!! This happened every week without fail for a good period although we must have varied it to occasionally to fit in the Ukranian Club,Todmorden,The Hop,Burnley,Welcome Arms,Marton,Leeds Central Club and proberly some other local nights long since forgotten. The thing is that you didn't really need a lot of cash to do all of this as most nights during the week were either free or relatively cheap to get in and they were'nt nights spent drinking. When you look back over 35 years or so,the obvious question is "How the f**k did I manage to do all of that week in,week out, without being totally wrecked " These days one all nighter and I'm out of commission for a few weeks Happy days indeed.

Rob Wigley Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 (edited) Mansfield area was the same, but we were all very young-only 3 channels on the telly-which shut down at 10.30pm. most of us lived with mum and Dad Sat in your bedroom or go out /-no contest. A good friend once told me his mates went along to the Blackpool Mecca with him "Because the Soul birds were fitter" and if they didn't "pull" in the Highland room they'd go down stairs into the main ballroom and pull there ! Look around today (maybe at your own sons/ daughters) there are always nights on in town to get them out-only difference with us lot is that it was this strange music that got hold of us and as the popularity "waned" and people paired off and got married then something else took its place-(probably Glam Rock or Disco) so we went back undergound ! bet you are all glad you did it when you did, as they say YOUTH IS WASTED ON THE YOUNG Rob Edited March 31, 2009 by Karen and Rob Wigley

Currently watching series 2 of Damages but watching very little since I packed up drinking and smoking - used to stay up til 1 or 2 am watching series, now I got to bed at 11 and read Pete, I've watched a lot of it when it was shown on FX. Have now decided to watch it from start to finish - 60 episodes on consecutive weekday nights on BBC 2. What I watched previously was really good and a lot of the TV critics think it's one of the best cop/crime dramas to come out of America. It is at times, however difficult to follow, partly because of the dialogue - lots of street slang - and also because of the number of characters in it. I'm hoping that by starting at the beginning I get the hang of it. As it's on at 11.20pm it seems an ideal time for you.
