Kris Holmes Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 This might be interesting. We just did this on another music board with LPs & ended up not even being able to find a common artist let alone single LP on a board of collectors with seemingly similar tastes. If we can't get a common 45 then it drops to common artist & failing that common label. It's interesting because things that you think are a give in are not kept in the collection by some people because they are either too common, or not representative of their favorite sound. Let lots of "I don't own that" followed by "how can you not own that" ensue You have to currently have the 45 in question filed, pressings don't matter so long as you can find it on 45 in your collection. I'll get the ball rolling, does anyone here not have: The Supremes "Baby Love" The Temptations "My Girl" ??? ps. if you don't collect 45s please don't say no to everything just to wreck it like I think some people were doing on the other board.
doublecookin Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 this sounds like fun, I dont have either on 45....what next?

How about Marvin Gaye "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" everybody's got that, havent they? Im guessing most come to this forum via Northern so why on earth would anyone have that 45? It's a good game but I think NZ needs to exercise a bit more control so not too many titles are put forward at once as it gets confusing. Where are we up to now. Which 45s are still in the running? ROD

ROD NZ never mentioned 'Northern' Rod and he opened the bidding with "Baby Love" & "My Girl". The question was 'Soul 45' not 'Northern Soul'. Take your point though that many come via 'Northern' so am certainly with you on the Artistics double sider - essential! Sean
Anoraks Corner Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 (edited) Hand up over here to the following...with my 'excuse' being that they are all on Japanese copies: The Supremes "Baby Love" The Temptations "My Girl" Al Wilson “Snake” Spyder Turner “I Can't Make It Anymore” Temptations “Ain't too proud to beg “ Artistics "Im gonna miss you" Cliff Nobles & Co “The Horse” Jackie Wilson “I Get The Sweetest Feeling” Edwin Starr “Agent Double O Soul” Marvin Gaye “What's Going On” Marvin Gaye "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" Nancy Ames “I dont want to talk about it” ...and naturally I have both Darrell Banks and Troy Dodds on US WD's! Sean I know that Sean but if you're coming from Northern angle then "..Heard.." is not Northern so unlikely to have it. And we are trying to arrive at a 45 everybody owns. I have the two you mentioned but then I collect Motown but you're right they're not Northern either. And just to pre-empt you as to why I don't have Marvin if I collect Motown I did buy it at the time but when I got to hear the back catalogue I just thought it wasn't a very good 45 as representative of the Motown sound. A bit pedestrian really. I still don't know where we're up to!! ROD
ChrisOD1964 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I have none of the above on vinyl but i do have the Winstons - colour him father my one and only 45 (permanent credit crunch) chris

I share Matt and the others surprise that there are Spyderless people out there (not counting the 'hotbox only' types of course). How about Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up? Who's going to be the first to say they ain't got one of those?
Premium Stuff Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 (edited) Yes I have Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up Can I make a suggestion please that anyone who hasn't got Spyder Turner - I Can't Make It Anymore goes on eBay now and buys one!! - it shouldn't cost you more than a tenner. Must be enough on there to go round. Call yourself a northern fan and not got Spyder T !!! (joking ) Then nobody will not have it - game over - sorted!
