Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 You are esily taken in. Three dodgy ones. Seeing as how you have called me a 'twat' and an 'idiot' on another SS thread - both in the same post - I presume that I am now also 'dodgy'. But I'm dying to find out whose company I'm keeping, so please be forthcoming. Incidentally I don't think I know you, and you certainly don't know me , so stop the name calling now, please.

Mike Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 out of order you got something to say about any other member on here then drop the sly digs and stand up and say it in the open if rather not then edit your post and give it a rest
Ady Croasdell Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Tony knows a ridiculous amount of stuff, having him 5 yards across the room from me at work saves me hours on the reference books. Boba's a great source of info and Robb K off Soul Talk is a seriously knowledgeable chap too, it'd be nice to get him on here too. Same goes for Mr Dyson he's brilliant on the super obscure stuff it's a shame he's so busy. Weingarden knows a fair bit and of course Dave Moore from the great Hitsville org. I concur with all the rest and I'll think of more soon. Whitfield knows a lot about women of the world.
Guest SteveJohnston Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 You are esily taken in. Three dodgy ones. Dave I have learned something about soul over the last few years from every single one of the guys from the lists above though there posts, PM's, of phone calls, it beggars belief that anyone can say one let alone three are dodgy! There are countless more that contribute to S/S I'm always learning from, so to the ones that post the positive! Thanks guys and keep up the good work. Steve J
Baz Atkinson Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 TWO PEOPLE THAT SPRING TO MIND FOR KNOWLEDGE ARE SEAN HAMPSEY WHOM I HAVE ALOT OF RESPECT FOR AND GARETH X WHO I THINK DOES NOT POST ENOUGH,DO AGREE WITH ANDY DYSON HAVING ALOT TO SHARE HE HAS ALOT OF DEEP SOUL KNOWLEDGE IN PARTICULAR WHICH COULD BENEFIT ALOT OF US ANORAKS LOL. ALSO LES F WHO HAS MADE A MASSIVE CONTRIBUTION TO THE MEDIA THREADS ALONG WITH BINSY,SOUL INTEGRITY,GAZMAN,MANUS,BRETT F,HUD SOUL,VAL,RODGER WHO ALWAYS POSTS UNDISCRIMINATELY,FROSTY JACK,SOUL FREAK,SOUL INTENTIONS,JOHN REED,THE LIST IS ENDLESS REALLY. CHALKY ,PETE SMITH AND TONY ROUNCE ALWAYS SHARE AND INFORM AS DOES JOAN,TED SOUL AND JOCKO WHO HAS IMMENSE KNOWLEDGE AND LOVES TO FLEX HIS MUSCLE IN THE MEDIA SECTION FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL OF US. GOT TO MENTION JOHN MANSHIP IF ANYONE WRITES WITH AUTHORITY HE DOES AND HE OFTEN GETS BERATED FOR THE QUIDES WHICH TO BE HONEST HAVE GIVEN US ALL SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT AND IN SOME RESPECT A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. THE PERSON WHO DESERVES THE MOST RESPECT IS MIKE HE PUTS UP WITH A LOAD OF OLD BOLLOCKS SOMETIMES BITTER AND ANTAGONISTIC AND STILL GIVES US THE FREE REIGN TO POST AND DISCUSS THIS WONDERFUL MUSIC. COULD GO ON ALL NIGHT BUT ITS SOUNDING LIKE A OSGAR SPEECH LOL,
Ady Croasdell Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 And of course it's not just the fonts of knowledge. I'm always appealing for stuff and getting replies from all sorts of collectors with very different types of collections. Sometimes it's the oddest little thing that you need and the big time brains ain't got it but a crofter in the Outer Hebrides has it stashed under his hassocks or can remember an article concerning the subject from a tiny fanzine in 1974.

Dave Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 OK, I'll try to be careful how I put this. In the last year or two this site has become a bit of an "old boys club" IMO. Those who are amongst the "big names" are always right, whereas the opposite applies for those outside the inner circle if they have an unfashionable opinion, especially if they are new here! I can think of a number of people whose contributions were interesting who now no longer or seldom post, or are censored or even prevented from contributing altogether. And the site is poorer for it IMO. This is the most insightful post on this thread: And of course it's not just the fonts of knowledge. This is the most insightful post on this thread: There are times when i have felt there is a bit of an "old boys club" going on with some members; especially when I have answered a post or put a scan up - only to have someone else give the same answer or put a scan up afterwards - and low and behold they get a reply or a 'thanks' and it is like my posts are invisible however, that does not make them 'dodgy' Dodgy, in my mind, would infer trying to rip people off; putting them in the same category as some of the beggers who sell or swap crap records on here after giving false descriptions. Non of the stuff I mention here has happened to me with any of the guys you refer to. Therefore 'Dodgy' is a word that ought to be used with caution, don't you think?

I hope that wouldn't have been me Mike, I'm notorious for being a bit dozy so if it was it wouldn't have been intentional; any info from any source is very welcome and in theory i would thank the first poster first. Nice call on Sebastian Ian, he's helped me out of a few tight spots and when I've screwed up he spares my feelings as best as he can. Marc Forrest knows his onions too. (let's hope that phrase confuses a few of them Urpeens!)

Guest vinylvixen Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Sorry Mike, I'm jetlagged from British Summertime! British Summertime and an extra large helping of 100 Club'itis.... If I need ANYTHING, Tony Rounce is always my first port of call. When I worked at the V&A, I looked after the Harry Hammond pop collection of 35,000 glass negs. Tony popped in to find some shots for the momentous Roulette Story CD that he was working on. He found his shots - and then proceeded to name everyone on nearly every contact sheet that we held in the archive - from the tea lady to the Managing Director of some obscure music publishers in the mid 1950's. This sort of information is priceless and the HH database is a better reference tool as a result. Tony doesn't need to go on Mastermind - the score board would go into meltdown Pete Smith is also a diamond geezer - me and Pete have a White Island love affair....and all the other 'backroom' SS'ers who don't post a huge amount but are there if I need to draw upon their vast knowledge. We're incredibly lucky to have this forum and the people who populate it Jo xx
Guest vinylvixen Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 And that Sebastian chap from Sweden knows his onions too! Ian D Talking of which, Mr Dewhirst, how are those Island shallots coming along
Guest vinylvixen Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) there is a bit of an "old boys club" going on with some members; however, that does not make them 'dodgy' It's about time there was a bit of equality on this forum....I'm off to set up the 'Old Girls Club' - and as for 'dodgy' - view my official title Edited March 30, 2009 by vinylvixen

Dave Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 ....and you have the neck to criticise others on here You didn't understand the question, did you? Bless. Do you understand the difference between the terms "infer" and "imply"?

Guest Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Could you type anything without the help of your trusty thesaurus? Dave.... here is a word for you to look up - 'TROLLING' And just to prove I'm a helpful guy, heres a link for you to get the definition from https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=trolling
Pete S Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I think this was supposed to be a positive thread... Unfortunately every thread that 'Dave' involves himself in gets dragged down to this, last week he was calling Malc Burton a sycophant for liking Ian levine productions, this week it's Mike plus three un-named dodgy characters.
Rob Wigley Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 intresting thread geoff, now as I know 95% of those mentioned on here personally after having met them "in the flesh" over the last 30 odd years, mainly in deep dark coners of all-nighters, weekenders, and soul-nights talking utter bollocks about records and other stuff in general. All this leads to Soul-Source an absolute GEM of a site for all us annoraks who love the trivia and knowing stuff behind the "round bit of plastic" that has cetainly lead me astray since I was 14. I have met some wonderful people on the scene and several dozen on here who have helped me drop little bits and pieces into stuff "wot I have written" over the years. Also given advice and knowlegde freely and helped without hesitation. its hard to single anyone out of a community, but some are exceptional. My list (without predudice) includes most of the ones already mentioned. Oscar style pause:- But top of the shop would be MIKE, as we would be back in dark corners without him. (we're not worthy) Pete S always returns PMs in an instant. (thanks Pete) and Malc Burton, a fountain of knowledge on the roots of the scene and as i once put it our "Elder Statesman" Must mention King of the Modern clips Martin "Cunnie" Dixon, who can send me a link to more or less anything ! and Ian Levine, he's forgot more than most of us know !!! and Above all a big thanks and Merry Christmas to all our readers Rob & Karen

The likes of yourself, Jeff Boardman, Keith Brady, Ian Cunliffe, Biff , Cog, Barry Maleedy, Flanny always amaze me with your knowledge and your willingness to share it. And as for your taste in women. You got a great one there with Gill, send her my love. Steve
