Ty Karim

Not been able to stop playing the fantastic Ty Karim CD that Adey C. & Kent Records brought out. Reading through the sleeve notes there are a couple of questions or avenues which I would like to explore or dig up some more info on .

This is in no way having a go at the info in the booklet or Adey (he knows that anyway but there will be a few out there that will post a go at me for supposedly having a go at Adey???) Now I was sure that my 45 wasnt Part 1 & Part 2 but cant find it, so I may be wrong.

However I have a Sheridan House 12" with an 8 minute version of "Keep on Doin' Whatcha Doin" not Part 1 & 2 as listed on the CD and the flip has Ty & Towana featuring O'Malley Jones doin "Catch Action" which is not on the CD despite the CD covering all of Ty Karims recordings.

Question : Has this track been overlooked or have I missed something along the way? I am pretty sure the other copies that I brought over late 80s early 90s were the same but cannot be sure. Anybody else got this track on the flip side of the 12" ?

In the CD booklet it also mentions that Towana & Ty were prehaps one and the same, well if this is the case then it begs the question who were these 2 on Kent Harris's label?

My info on the label Sheridan House had an artist by the name of Towana Hill who had a 1978 release "Tell me how it is ", so again was this the Towana of "Wear your natural baby". If it is then it throws a lot up in the air on Ty Karim.

More questions than answers, so if anybody can start with confirming the flip to the 12" then we can go from there and if anybody has a copy of the Towana Hill 45 then that info would be of great help.

No problem Dave, the Towana on S H is Ty's daughter but that is not her as T & The Total D as she would have been about 10 then, it's her Mum using her name as a tribute. I must admit that we haven't included Catch Action as it would have stuck out like a sore thumb as it is very different to the rest of the stuff. We were going to include everything but found the great new unissueds at the end and dropped Catch Action to get them in. Sorry if you really wanted that on CD but something had to go.

Still got a nagging question as to who Towana Hill was on SH from 1978 though?? Seems odd there was someone recording by that name on Kent Harris label from 1978 with a different surname.

Was Tys daughters surname Hill?
