Isn't it great when you hear a track that you've never heard before and think "How good is that".

Listening to Andy Peebles on Smooth FM on Saturday night he played "One on one" by PPM and I genuinely thought that it was a superb track, which I had never heard before.

Where does it come from and did it ever get any action on (any part of) the scene?

He also played a track by Donny Hathaway called "I know it's you" which was also excellent and which comes from a Leon Ware album, which appears to be some form of collabaration with other artists. Anybody know this as well?

It's on Phillip Mitchell's great "Make It Good" album on Atlantic and also as a 45 (the other side is "Only Smoke Remains").

Has been played on and off since the 80s, both on the Northern and Modern branches of the scene.

I seem to recall PPM also doing it "live" when he appeared at Fleetwood weekender....

A Prince Phillip track I'm very fond of is "you're all I've got in the world" on Atlantic.

"One on one" is also on a great modern soul CD called "You better believe it" which is rare stuff from vaults of Atlantic atco cotillion etc..Great cd both volumes 1 and 2.Im always playing them in the car!It has the great I want Sunday back again previously unreleased from Bettye Swann on volume 2.Also classic Bettye Swann Sam dees etc.

Great tune the PPM - had one in my box for a few years - sold it recently having a clear out. Available on the album and 45, and should be easy to get hold of (forget the book price - s/b no more than 20 bucks, album a bit harder)

Donny's "I Know it's You" comes from his "Extensions Of A Man" LP which also includes "Love Love Love" and the awesome "Someday We'll All Be Free".
