Guest Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 (edited) i think the north by sheer virtue of the fact that it is termed Northern soul. your thoughts Mr Middlesbrough Once again , please may I offer for your consideration , the reason why it is called " NS " ......... It has a connection with geography , but not it the way you assume it to be . I posted this several days ago in the " Look In your Box " section on SS : A lot of people tend to forget that " Northern Soul " was coined by Dave Godin , as a way of " seperating " records that had the more uptempo Motown aligned musical type and style , from the other records stocked and sold at Soul City . I once asked David about this , and he told me by labelling boxes with the term " NS " , it saved a lot of time when people " from the North " went to SC , as it gave them a " dedicated " section for browsing and selection , instead of them going through stock that would not be of interest to them , a lesson he had learned through experience . Chris L Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 i think the north by sheer virtue of the fact that it is termed Northern soul. your thoughts Mr Middlesbrough Actually I got to thinking about it last night, would this include soulies fom the North who moved down South? What about the ones from the South who moved up North ? Does it mean North of the Thames, Watford, Birmingham? And those guys from the Midlands - are they Northern Midlanders - if you come from Wales is that the North or just a lot of sheep ????? And as for the Jocks they're so far North they have almost come back round to somewhere just south of Bournemouth This is a burning issue that needs to be addressed and resolved before lunchtime today I hope it does anyway..........................
Guest Scarborosoul Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Chris Draw two lines across the country say Middlesborough to Morcambe and then Skeggy to Keele. Evgeryone above the line is a geordiejock and everyone below is a frenchman with his head kicked in. This does not include the brummies coz they all have a speach defect and it does not include the Welsh coz they all dance in wellies and fancy sheep. All those inbetween the two lines are real northerners all strong in arm and tick in t head. rick

There are so many scallies living in Bournemouth it is localy kown as 'Liverpool by the Sea'. Two minutes up the road in Boscombe you can't bloody move for scousers & jocks. I think it's the sandy beaches that attract them more than the soul music though - a kinda free holiday on the coast while claiming benifits Edited March 8, 2009 by mikecook

Anais nin Carms Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 God I could watch him dance for hours..... that avatar that is . Right ..does it really matter are we really bothered about proportioning the scene into regional slices. Lets just say the fact it is so diverse a cultural mix ....makes it all the more interesing to eat currently listening to Latin Jazz , bit of funk and chigago soul ...now does that make me a soul nomad ? I have lived and travelled in a few places ? I am worried about the term scallies though ..I was conversing with a mate from liverpool and actually used the term in conversation talking about a bad event of the past... I hope I didn't offend my mate ..didn't mean to.
Barry Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Get this! Yorkshire folk and it's immediate area have always been what I would call begatting of the true meaning of 'Northern Soul'. And I'm a Lancashire lad.
Chris L Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 God I could watch Dave Evison dance for hours..... that avaitor that is . I have lived and travelled in a few places ? It's a part of the experience Carms - meeting folk like - all strange and wonderful experiences.......
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Well this is just mad. does it sound like a North vs South match. Ok so a lot of good clubs was based up North in the east but the south had his far share or venus. i am not even gonna use midlands here cause i think it's a divide in England your either North or South Wales and Scotland are neither they are seprate countries. plus southern people are just as good we had a lot of good venues down here and still do London 100 club, Howard Mallet club, St Ives, the fleet and Peterborough Wirrina which i hear and believe attracted a good crowd even could be as popular as Wigan Casino need i say more
