Pete S Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I'm sure Chalky mentioned that there were two different matrix numbers for Ruby on Gold Token - well I just got one with the matrix x-4353 and to be honest it's blown my mind. Having heard this on 3 or 4 originals on Gold Token, off the inferior Take 6 release, off the bootleg and also the CD - couldn't believe my ears when I heard this one. Feminine Ingenuity has a completely different string arrangement and way heavier bass, and sounds like a different vocal. Deceived is a completely different vocal, and much better, sold backing - and again, with different strings. No books seem to price this any differently to the other version but it must be rarer - I didn't even know it existed. p.s. I went to pick up over 100 goodies today - Deadbeats, L Allen, an almost complete Thelma collection, Soulmasters, Debonairs, Carol Frederick, Daisy Burris, Seven Souls, blimey it's been a long time since I've seen records like this. Will start listing them early next week.

Chalky Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Have you heard them together Chalky - I can't believe the difference link Have heard them both but not side by side so didn't take much notice regarding the difference. Wouldn't mind mp3 to compare
Chalky Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 We discussed this on thje RSF some time back... the X-4353/X-4354 is the first press. The record was released May 19, 1966 according to label files.
Mikevague Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Wish I'd known before I pissed away a few at Capitol at the Dome couple of years ago! They sold quick, very quick at 350 pounds each, now I know why! Used to have a few, deadstock perfect, and last one got $900+, despite varied opinions of value! Only a couple left now, and I've been very conservitive with em' since I heard about the different mix. You are right, Pete; There is a big difference! Be carefull with it, it is very rare! I don't know ANY California record dealers or collectors who have turned any up other than the handfull I found, ever! Enjoy!
Guest Arcticsoulboy Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 What are the different pressings (Gold Token and Take 6) valued at at the moment? I´ve seen the Gold Token one at 400 and 600 quid in books and lists recently. Ideas anyone?
Guest Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Seen the Gold Token go for around £600, and up......in recent times.
