Joe Bataan / Naatab - I'm Satisfied - Fania / Uptite

I'm looking for some info on the following 45s:

Joe Bataan - I'm Satisfied/So Young, Too Young - Fania

Naatab - I'm Satisfied/Mono - Uptite wdj

It was only after the Latin thread a few months ago when Mace mentioned that Naatab was Bataan spelt backwards and was the same artist that this bit of info clicked in my rather slow mind! I've got both the above 45s and IMO 'I'm Satisfied' is a stunner of a track!

What I really want to know is which of these releases came first, rarity and value of each? I'll be keeping one for myself and selling the other on.....want to make sure the one I keep is the more desirable of the two!

Thanks in advance,

Adam.

GREAT tune indeed!

As far as I know the Fania release came first, but both are from 1970/1971 or so.

In my experience the Fania release is harder to find than the Uptite one, but as far as value goes I've never seen either sell for more than £30-£40.

It's interesting to note that in the latest Manship guide the Fania 45 is valued to £10 and the Uptite 45 is valued to £100... :D

I only have the Naatab 45 Adam, so can't help you there!

Have played it out a couple of times and think there is definitely some mileage on the 70's/Crossover scene with this great track (maybe even the Northern scene????)

Both quite tough to find methinks?

Cheers

Steve

I Like quite a few of his across the two lables, 'Special Girl' ' 'Uptown' & 'Too much lovin' /Ordinary guy' (can't remember which is the play side on that one, but remember one at least being a cracker).

Plus his great version's of 'Under the street lamp' & 'Crystal blue persuasion' of course.

They always seem to attract a good few bidders when they come up on ebay, usualy seem to go for book or more !

 Remember someone putting another good one up on here too...'Subway Joe' i think ? Lp only ?

Off to have a look on refosoul

Subway Joe did appear on 45 (Fania 455)

Young, Gifted & Brown is another cracker by him on Uptite (0021), with the added bonus of Unwed Mother (a nice lopping crossover type track) on the other side, rather than Salsa things that sometimes appear

Just gone into the files at Fania and the Uptite release is the original.

It was approved in April 1970 with an initial order of 2000 promos and 2000s issues.

The Fania release was approved in May 1971 with an IO of 600 promos and 3000 issues.

So the Uptite release is very much the original issue

For information on Uptite and a good dose of soul Nuyorican music I'd suggest checking out the following
