Steve G Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 youngblood smith Rubin Ben Zine Tim (Celtex) amongst others link In the case of Benzine, a poor pop group who couldn't sing and made a quite dreadful record for Parkway, before quite rightly fading away
Guest in town Mikey Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 In the case of Benzine, a poor pop group who couldn't sing and made a quite dreadful record for Parkway, before quite rightly fading away link Or alternatively, a group that made an absolutely stonking good track, that when all the lads and lasses at the Yate allnighter clapped along, it would make your hair stand on end.
Wiganer1 Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 In the case of Benzine, a poor pop group who couldn't sing and made a quite dreadful record for Parkway, before quite rightly fading away link =========== not one of your faves then steve? i once sold all my lps to get my copy of this.... floggin em at a quid each at notts palais things we do eh?

I never liked it at the Casino when it was big, and I forgot about it completely therafter, as it really fell from grace. Then I heard someone play it out recently (this year) - my hair did stand on end - not because I liked it - a few of us all agreed there are plenty of better things in a DJ's box, and mused as to why this was getting re-spins.
Godzilla Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 youngblood smith Rubin Ben Zine Tim (Celtex) amongst others link Not sure about the rest but I think Rubin was a bloke that painted fat lasses in the nuddy Godz

Steve G Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Doesn't stand up too well these days but, It was the right record for the right time Col. link Hey Col When I heard it played recently I assumed (wrongly as it happens) that the DJ was playing it off of a compilation CD. He says "Next up a fantastic oldie, who remembers this one? absolutely brilliant...." and on comes Ben-Zine. I assumed he'd just cued up the wrong track on the CD, which in the heat of a DJ spot is quite easy to do I'd wager. But as I say I was wrong, at the end of the record he again reiterated how good it was. Agree begrudgingly on the intro, it is quite catchy, but those nazally white college kid vocals are just so awful n'est pas!
Tomangoes Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Funny thing related to some of the 'dodgy' sounds of yesteryear. If you heard them in a totally unexpected environment like a TV backing track on Heartbeat or the like, you recognise them in a split second and enjoy them for the memory. One in particular was hearing 'the joker' in a passing car a few years ago and thinking 'I know that' sparking off me humming it for the rest of the day. You get the drift. Ed Ed

No doubt Soul Inc will be slagged off next since I just bought it link It's hard for me to judge that record nowadays. Certainly it's been played 'extensively' up here for some time. Of course, that doesn't make it a poop sound - but I can't imagine why anyone would want to buy it to play out. All IMHO. Hammy
Guest hammy Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Karmello Brooks link Rachel It's poop. Scoopsy poop at that. Hammy
Mark Bicknell Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Rachel It's poop. Scoopsy poop at that. Hammy link For what it's worth i don't think Ben Zine is a group more the guys name first name Ben, surname Zine, yes massive at Yate etc. i even had a copy twenty years ago infact had about three or four over the years all of which i've sold on, yes there are better records around and also i've heard a lot worse over the years, harmless pop music with a beat that worked way back but not one to be given a second chance on today's scene..still whatever floats your boat!!! Regards - Mark Bicknell.
