Professorturnups
Over the past 2 - 3 years this problem has been getting steadily worse imho. I can understand with the current drinking laws that some drinkers will hit an All-Niter for a late night session. Can't really get my head round why groups of young men would want to pay to get into a club that finishes at 2, isn't a pick up joint and the music is unfamiliar. Surely they have other clubs packed with girlies to eye up (and more) in the vicinity?? I've avoided a certain venue recently, the last straw being a tw*t mirroring my dancing and skipping off to pester somebody else after I asked him "What?!" Been going to said venue many years but lost faith. Shame cos the music is brill. So what's the answer? Memberships? Better scrutiny on the door? Fully understand with the credit crunch that venues need the revenue but then again I've heard others are being more choosy so it must balance out. What do others think? Mark C ps.. Told that some idiot even lit up a cig inside a soul night on saturday! Link to comment Social source share

Ive said it more than once on here. The 100 club has definately changed since they got rid of them to name just one venue.............Interesting though as when i posted that a venue (not 100 club i hasten to add) was full of beer boys only out for a late nite drink which ruined my night as they were mucking about on the dance floor taking thie p**s and when i asked them not to dance with drinks in their hands i was told to f**k off, I got accused of killing the soul scene and being elitist!!! I wouldnt suggest you propose ways they could be kept out as that is, apparently not encouraging new blood into the scene........ Link to comment Social source share

Guest Paul
Club owners and promoters have a duty to protect their paying customers from violence, initimidation, offensive behaviour etc. If they fail to do this, go elsewhere. Stricter membership schemes can help. Promoters who invite "pissheads" into specialist soul events are being greedy and irresponsible. They deserve to lose their regular customers. Spacehopper
i think it depends where you are....and how much the night is costing if youre a promoter.... if its a small town you are probably the only club open and will get those sad drunk men who dont wanna go home alone.....if its costing you a lot of money for big name djs and the crowd isnt what you expected you might not have a choice but to let them in.....i feel sorry for anyone in this position and its a shame if it ruins thier future events at go go children in bristol we get passers by and friends of friends who arnt 'on the scene' but they are always well behaved.....although at times dont seem to understand about dancing with drinks !!.....luckily for us being a big city there are other clubs open all night not 5 minutes away full of half naked drunk woman to attract the twats.... i played in bath the other week and because of the snow numbers were down, the promoter almost let the people in from the pub above us but as he had covered his costs he made the right choice of having just a couple of dozen people in who knew the score and were up for it rather than a packed venue of people who may have f***** about and ruined it for others... Guest Paul
My dad was a founding member of a large and modern Working Men's Club in County Durham. When I was 17 I was allowed to go in for a few pints but I had to be signed in by a member (my dad or one of the other committee members) and I had to behave myself. If I had misbehaved, got drunk or used bad language in the lounge or concert hall (where women were present), I'd have been banned and my dad would have been banned too. And no doubt he would have killed me. It was a huge place, packed with thousands when acts such as The Drifters, The Fantastics or Jimmy James were on stage, and I don't ever recall seeing a fight. Let's face it, they must have been doing something right. Link to comment Social source share

Rugby Soul Club
We could have easily gone down the road of letting locals in, that way we wouldn't have lost money for the first 3/4 years of running Rugby but we had our hearts set on what we've got now and stuck at it... Hi Shaun, The thing is how do you tell? If people turn up pi**ed then its easy to exclude them but if they get out of hand once inside then its harder to deal with. Thats why I agree membership is the way forward (or backwards I suppose lol). In the old days there wasnt such a problem because the bar shut early (or didnt open at all). This has never been a beer fueled scene imo so why do we need late licences and all nite drinking? Do you think a do could survive now if it just sold soft drinks? Guest toby
I have to say that when I went to my first Venue in 30 yrs (Rugby) it was in the back of my head that it might be a bun-fight - all night drinks licence and all. I'm 50 , can't fight and don't want to. I was immediately impressed with the set up. I arrived at about 2330 and immediately clocked the door staff clocking me. I was reassured. I've only been to Rugby twice and I haven't even seen someone who remotely showed signs of having had a drink or two, never mind appearing 'drunk'. Absolute courtesy from everyone......that's what Soul Nights have been in my experience and should be (including the ancient history I was part of) and hats off to Rugby for that......it's safe, fun and it feels that way all of the time you are there. Hockley Soul
Me too! I think memberships are a good idea. This seems to be getting a problem at a lot of places, at a recent event I attended one idiot was given his marching orders for fooling around on the dance floor. Memberships do seem to be the way forward, but would this stop you going to a nite on the spur of the moment, if you were not a member if that particular club ? Or would people of a certain age like me just be granted addmission. Link to comment Social source share
Guest bazabod_downunder
We never seem to get much of a problem, our event is upstairs so the enquisitive locals wander upstairs to look through the windows to see some 40+ year old men, some balding dancing on their own....they soon turn tail as they must think it's a gay club...lol There has been some trouble here & there but usually short lived, especially when they figure out we all know eachother, take one on, take them all on sort of thing......one funny story, at our last weekender on the Sunday there were a few new faces in, not soulies, just looking, this one girl was up dancing & obviously trying to copy some of the moves, she wanders over to my mate Mark Webb & asks him something, he then points at me & then she makes a beeline. So there I am in a 'moment' she's next to me trying to copy some moves, very annoying & she asks 'can you teach me to dance?'....I said 'no sorry love' I make it quite obvious I don't want to talk, just dance...she asks again, same reply from me, she walks of in a huff......I see Mark pissing himself laughing, apparently she'd asked him & he said 'No I can't but he can as he's a professional dance teacher'....lol Mike as for Oakdale boys club, there was always scraps there...lol.....& at The Bombers in Canford Heath I don't think any in their right mind would have taken on Ricky, Tom Wyley & crew. I just went back and read it and Mark replied fairly and no one else even commented on your post. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/Nuneaton-op-t93986.html Anyway they'll be no pissheads at MOVE ON! on Friday. Everyone will need a clear head to scribble down the new wants they hear Edited February 16, 2009 by Matt Male Link to comment Social source share

Steve Brown
Me and Jem run The 'Pembo' in Rushden. Never had any 'pissheads', never had any security either. We have had a few people come in not knowing what the night is all about and have either left after about half an hour or have enjoyed it and asked when the next one is on. In a couple of cases people have said they expected it to be a 'Motown' night and expressed dissapointment, so we apologised and refunded their entrance money! I can't imagine any major problem occuring that we are not capable of nipping in the bud or handling with a bit of tact. Never seen any major problem anywhere I have ever been to, to be honest.
