Anoraks Corner Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Is this the same dude, who recorded on Jive in the 60's?
pikeys dog Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Is this the same dude, who recorded on Jive in the 60's? Could well be - he did an earlier version of this on Atco so it isn't impossible that he was recording in the sixties...
Dave Thorley Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Could well be - he did an earlier version of this on Atco so it isn't impossible that he was recording in the sixties... Believe it was the same guy. Al was one of the 60's/70's big name DJ's up there with Frankie Crocker and E Rodney Jones. He was also somewhat of a empressario in Detroit manager of Al Hudson and Oneway. But he came to a sticky end, used to take payola but not always play the tunes, was eventually shot. Earnest Kelly, who was in partnership with him in the early 70's tells a great story of spending the whole day in their office on James Cuzons, under the desk because disgruntaled people were taking random shots at the building all day long in connection with payolla.

He's also Vee Allen's (aka Velma Perkins) brother
