Quinvy Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I can't understand all the negative comments regarding this recording. I always thought it was a black female artist and where the **** you get the drunk and off her tits from I'll never know. Awesome dance record as far as I'm concerned. Just the soul snobs trying to knock the record for it's lack of depth. Get over it. 1
TheBigO Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I never said I didn't like the record Quinvy and I've never been classed as a Soul Snob ever (how very dare you pmsl) but the fact remains it is weird vocally. I always liked it since hearing John Vincent spinning the instrumental of it 'The Dance Track' at Morecambe and elsewhere. As for the drunk etc thats whats out there and as I said earlier we ant never going to really know unless someone steps forward who was there. 1

You've dismissed a £25 a record set night without even giving it a chance, what does that make you Phil? Thankfully we don't all share the same taste. it has a great backing but the lyrics are plain ridiculous and I can't believe anyone would serioulsy consider laying those down for a commercial release. I really do think in the cold light of the day after the session they realised what a turkey they had and canned it. The lyrics spoilt a good dance record. as for it being Patti Labelle, wouldn't she be tied up with Atlantic atbthe time of this recording? There would be no way she could put her name to another production if she was? 1
Chalky Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Anyway I've emailed Patti LaBelle so hopefully she will reply with an answer either way.
TheBigO Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I kinda of hope that it is Patti purely because I love a good story and god knows the scenes got many many of those concerning the singers etc we love; from bank robbers to pimps and beyond. 1

I still have my doubts but I'm more than happy to be proved wrong mate. Listening to both (PL & BB & PD) Patti's voice sounds that bit smoother on her 60's recordings? Any idea of the recording date for the Virtue track? She signed with her group to Atlantic in 1965. Edited November 30, 2014 by chalky
TheBigO Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 No, all that I know it was an uncredited acetate (see scan elsewhere) with bugger all details. 1

What a ridiculous Statement. Look through the list of the best selling songs since the 1930's. Loads of mad lyrics especially with records about dance crazes, and novelty songs a plenty. Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey A kiddley divey too, Wouldn't you?"

As for dance craze records, there are some bad ones but there are some excellent ones, this just happens to be in the former.
Guest Deadpool Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 True Deadpool, who can forget Chuck Jackson with the song lyrics in hand at Hinckley. That said Major Lance was a joy (and a real nice bloke too) and Jr Walker always got the house rock'. Mr Starr needs no mention. Major Lance, legend!!!! Remember reading he ended up being a cocaine dealer and was last seen as a Petrol Pump attendant, also remember seing Curtis Mayfield live that was cool, as for Tommy Hunt he never forget any lyrics, too busy learning some elses.... Lol

I'm sure Keb said it was Patti Labelle seemed so far fetched at the time, as for anyone admiting to anything it would be too risky to admit anything with the USA Compensation Culture, plus if the Virtue session was not officially sanction, someone allways want to sue someone else in the states.
SLAMMINSOUL Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 (edited) I don't think its trying to be anything other than a dance record so why judge it than anything other than that? Its fun n I love dancing to it. Its just deadly quack! Atb Clint Edited December 1, 2014 by SLAMMINSOUL

Lol Major Lance was a legend! When I walked all the way to Stoke to see him perform in the 80s (some 20+ miles) in the pouring rain he came across a sopping wet me outside before people had started to arrive and had a quick chat and like a total knob I didn't realise who he was until I got in and he came over to me before the start of what was a fantastic show by him to say thanks for the support . I almost died! The Major will always be No 1 as far as I'm concerned. 1

So long as it aint one of her Peanut receipes, from her Cooking Channel, hey this is getting ilke a game of cluedo maybe the (jerrry) butler did it in the studeo with the microphone cable, using Helium gas to cover and acid to cover his acetone tracks (audio ones) bahahhhahah ......

Yea, I heard a smilar story,, Alan Turing was working hard trying to crack the engima code, but hit a holdback, thus finished for the night but the cleaner while at her work noticed several uncompleted equations due to logarithims not making sense, Im convinced she was involved in helping complete the last 40 logarthims..
