from the film company ...

Hi Peter,

The film is progressing well and on schedule. As ever, these things take a lot of time and energy. As the film nears release a new website will be launched with a lot more information, but it's not yet possible to put a date on this. Announcements will be made on www.ipsofactofims.com at the appropriate time.

Best,

Ed Barratt

Assistant Producer

good to know all is well i think, despite the pundits and piss takers, .....there is enough downers in this world at the moment without poor and negative "comments" about what may or may not be a good final product, ......I for one hope it will be a great success !

See the SS knitting circle is back  ... What were they called again Pete ? :D

I know what I would do if I was the film director... I'd introduce some extra characters & name them the same as you moaners for a laugh...... for instance..the main guy in the film could go & visit his Granny who suffers from Tourets called 'Jumping Joan' :D ...

or he could have a cousin called 'Paul Sadot' who cuts his ear off whilst suffering for his art over his school play production :D ....Or how about a fat crap dancer in an Arsenal shirt & spencers called 'Simsy'

Any others ? ... be kind though...it's meant just a bit of fun. :)

Seriously though...how many times...lets wait till it's finished & been seen before passing judgement ! :D ... I would imagine 99% of films would fail if film critics judged by film plot & pre release propoganda alone !!!

:g: That said... bit of a crap title if it has changed

You forgot the knob head cheap and crap oldies collector 'Bogue' from Worcester. Who's never contributed anything to life except their mundane and droll, opinions and thoughts. They have 'knitted' their life together but dropped quite a few stitches along the way. Sits at home and dreams of one day coming up with an original thought and acting on it. Dreams of living!....film could be based around their life story...TITLE?

'Destined To Become a Loser' :) or 'I Am Nothing' :D or 'Manys The Slip Twixt The Cup And The Lip'.

I saw on television the other day that most films now made with under a ten million budget fail to make any money, most independent films in the true sense of the word fail to gain any major distribution and are often destined at best to go straight to DVD, nothing of course to do with how good the film may or not be but simple fact as the big budget productions stand a lot better chance of finding an audience with over the top mass saturation advertising etc. I really hope this movie is a true masterpiece and does well in commercial terms.

Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Just had a call from my mate to say we're on to see the film at some preview thing in Newcastle tonight.

So regardless of the title I'm going with an open mind to see no doubt, some social meanderings from the era (the film company blurb obviously mentions 70's hard times, the love angle of the main characters and Wigan Casino - how obvious!) Also there'll be some dancing I suppose and to hear some music to go with said dancing.

So I'll turn up, see it and post back here - it will all be a matter of opinion of course!!

Cheers

Tony

(Loved the last 'Wigan' thing I viewed when I drove down to Lowton to catch the Once Upon A Time In Wigan play and hey - owt's better than watching NUFC at the minute - and no comments on that please!!)

Or, call it "Casino Royalle" and you could get that little known bloke called Daniel Craig to do an appearance, maybe doing a backflip or two in the Casino itself, and then, after he was leaving the allnighter, some Jap bloke called Oddsod, who he bumped into accidentally, could throw a steel lined Adidas bag at him, (covered in badges for extra cred) and Daniel could escape in his new Aston Martin, having bundled five Casino regulars inside, to give em a lift back to Bury, (as he'd promised them earlier) leaving Oddsod fuming, but heading back inside so he didnt miss "Long after tonight is all over"................. Whatcha think? Good plot.....? biggrin.gif

Wow. Didn't know the film was actually finished.

Wonder if they've contacted any of the extras they enlisted via this site and asked them to go along and see it?

Anybody?

Anyway, here's hoping it's good thumbsup.gif

Funny that.

All the effort they put into telling us they were making the film, needing extra's etc.

And absolutely zilch when it's been finished.

People outside the scene dont get it sorry to sound negative but the film will be the usual contrived pap .

The only decent representation of the scene and that includes documentarys is the Urban Expansions production of Once upon a time in Wigan imo .

People outside the scene don't get what??????

I have many friends outside the scene who get what its about, they just choose not to get involved for whatever reason..

Some people in my experience think that the rare or NS scene is the Snake or Frank Wilson and as such dont appreciate the depth of the scene , I would not like to think that some one like that would produce a film based on it .

I compliment you on your freinds my friends dont understand me nor do fellow soulies

I may be wrong, but I got the impression he was talking about the people making the film.

Thanks for that Joan and yes Mark S makes a good point.... Sorry for taking it the wrong way :ohmy:

There are many clowns who don't really know the circus we perform in... The trouble is there are quite a few different circus acts and tents now but thats for another topic and has been talked to death already :D

Guest in town Mikey

Whereabouts in Salford do you live exactly Julie?

Highbury was a 2 min walk from where I used to live in the 60's.

liam_brady2.jpg

Frank & Pat were/are ledges but this fella was the man and when he wasn't Charlie George was!

Anyway the ipsofacto website looks a bit sparse, not much mention of the film. Sure there was a work in progress link?

Ahh Charlie George. He used to call me gun'nah. Happy days. I used to like Arsey back then, in the pre Arsey whinger days.

Right this is what happened and what we were told.

18.30pm Wed 16th Feb 2009 Empire Cinemas Screen/Theatre 6 The Gate Newcastle Upon Tyne

Free screening of the not yet finished film - an audience reaction/test preview.

Sound would be patchy and some scenes may have printed dialogue rather than audio as the dubbing was not complete - but a full length movie.

The film does not have a finished title.

Audience approx 150 of all ages.

Now here's the hard bit to describe it and try to give MY opinion.

Set in 1974 in Stoke - time of the Birmingham Bombers, hard times, football hooligans etc

Archive footage and the acted out scenes combine to show kipper ties, big collars and grimish urban life/shit job scenarios.

Some good characters are introduced that will interweave throughout the film.

But we are pretty much into a boy fancies girl situation.

First real blast is the Millionaires - And The Rains Came played dominantly as the girl (a hairdresser} is cutting his hair and he is introduced to the music.

I do not intend to tell the whole bloody plot here but it is an urban love story of the time and a very BIG focus on his adventures when he visits The Casino Club.

Lot's of very good dancing and a typical soundtrack.

The Snake, Out On The Floor, Tainted Love, Gonna Be A Big Thing, 7 Days Too Long, Breakaway and significantly to the film - You Didn't Say A Word - very significant indeed.

There are many side issues with the main characters workmate (Irishman called Brendan) and a big bad Casino drug dealer (Alan) come dancing kingpin.

In all he gets the girl but not the one we think.

He gets the one that wants to make a life for herself.

After the film it's the feedback they want and we all fill in forms relating to what we thought was good, bad, best characters etc

Amazingly they gave a list of proposed titles as well and a chance to pick what you think or indeed give them one of your own.

Conclusion.

A very good insight to the workings of the film. I took it for what it was and obviously I wasn't expecting 'rare soul' insight.

You got a general Wigan soundtrack and they tried to be as authentic as possible with the sets as well.

The blurb says Joe is 17 but even that may change to 19 we were told in the discussion afterwards of which me and my mates were included in as well.

The film people wanted it to be as authentic as possible but this is NOT a documentary.

It's not a This England.

It is a youth culture story from a time gone by.

It wants to be a classic culture love story social issues type in the vein of This Is England.

Young girls of 17 admitted they found it hard to understand - they couldn't connect with the life portrayed back then.

For me it put me back to 1974 and dancing to those sounds in The Denton in the West End of Newcastle. Obviously they were the only sounds you had as loads hadn't even been discovered.

To cap it all though on the way out at the end one lad about 20yrs old told me he had never heard anything like those sounds in his life!

Where could he get them?

Well there is no 'record shop' in town but I just said 'google' Northern Soul mate - You'll be on for hours or more likely bloody years!

So that's it - that's how it went and we'll see what happens next.

I enjoyed the whole thing and no we didn't get paid!!

Cheers

Tony
