Yes thats my understanding but Penny was a subsiduary of Chess - Was also rumoured that it was the Chessmen but never seen any confirmation of that either.

In another thread here someone clarified who the chessmen were (just some chess musicians). I would have to search to find the thread. Chess had many licensed in records from other labels, and many are listed on the discography but were never actually released.

boba Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Sorry Boba - I thought they were a subsiduary - However Im sure Ive seen a Penny label saying distributed by Chess . Hi. I haven't seen one -- I am interested in seeing it if you can dig it out and scan it. Even if they were, though, they weren't a chess subsidiary, the label was run by Morry Alpert who ran the MET record shop (and the MET label) and run by Chicago DJ Richard Pegue in the 60s... along with the Nickel label. Thanks.

Cheers for the link to MET I certainly didnt know that although I remeber in my youth discussing the Nickel label. See you people across the water are really useful at times. Cheers BOBA
