Guest andyrattigan Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Did this get a 45 release? I think its his best tune. Does it get plays on the Northern scene? Ive never heard it out. White Soul doesnt get much better. Nice re-edit of it down a couple of years ago.
Guest DAWEEDSMOKA Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Geez I've got at least 3 copies of this 45 sitting around at home. I've heart the timebox version quite often and the four seasons once, but not spun by a northern DJ. Did this get a 45 release? I think its his best tune. Does it get plays on the Northern scene? Ive never heard it out. White Soul doesnt get much better. Nice re-edit of it down a couple of years ago.

Seen a few on ebay lately with a few chasers ,usually around the £25- £30 mark Amazing how when someone releases a version in the charts ,how people rush out to re-activate the old one's

Its sacrilege I tell you!
Simsy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Think Frankie Valli may have got more spins if it were not for Timebox. That is or was the played northern one ...

Spin away Andy, will be nice to hear it! BTW my 45's British which is why it was only a fiver. Look forward to seeing you at The Globe mate! Simon

Simsy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Thats cos it's miles better Soufully speaking, yeah Timebox version better than FV. Miles better? .. hmmm
Pete S Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Soufully speaking, yeah Timebox version better than FV. Miles better? .. hmmm Not on about soul, it's just a better version...nearly bought it when I was 8 years old
Simsy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Not on about soul, it's just a better version...nearly bought it when I was 8 years old You were buying records when you were eight?! It's all about the soul in here! No really Timebox version embraced by Northern fans as it is more soulful than Frankie Valli. Though don't want to knock FV too much he had a lot more success than Timebox and there's a reason for that.
Guest john s Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Thats cos it's miles better Agreed. Best thing I can say about the Frankie Valli version is that it's better than the bloody Pilooski remix!
Pete S Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 You were buying records when you were eight?! Weren't you?
Simsy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Weren't you? No, ice cream. Oh and short trousers ..
Pete S Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 No, ice cream. Oh and short trousers .. Thinkl it was because I played my moms records from an early age, and I mean like 18 months, there were always records everywhere, by the time I was 9 I had bought (and don't go thinking I was rich, they were all ex charts) martha & vandellas - DITS, rolling stones - honky tonk women, beatles - get back, beatles - hey jude, beatles - ballad of john and yoko, the move - blackberry way, desmond dekker - israelites, the foundations - build me up buttercup, the archies - sugar sugar...I even bought, and I still don't know how I can have heard it, marvin gaye & tammi terrell - you ain't livin until you're lovin...actually probably heard it on the radio same as I heard Timebox.

Guest andyrattigan Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Thats cos it's miles better Just listened to the Timebox version. Its nice but for me I think the FV version is better. Perhaps if I had heard the TIMEBOX version first I would think differently. I prefer FVs vocal as well

Wouldn't say it was collecting, it was just buying records. I still have the Marvin & Tammi, The Foundations and a copy of Sufferer by The Kingstonians which the lad over the road gave me when he packed up being a skinhead

pikeys dog Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Used to play it at "Brighton Beach" in the late 90s, as an alternative to the Timebox. You used to be able to pick it up out of Goldmine/Beatin Rhythm for three quid a pop.

And if so, in what way?

Stubbsy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 A few years ago had problems with a guy on ebay when a record never turned up. It was only a relative cheapie so after a couple of e mail didn't pursue it. 'Bout 6 months later the guy e mails me to apologise, saying he'd had some sort of breakdown and would be sending the record pronto, Anyway couple of days later the little brown package arrives and there's two freebies thrown in by way of apology, one of which was the above! Anyway, shelved it with the "too poppy, not proper Norvern" (IMO) stuff and forgot all about it till came across it again a couple of months ago. Took it out and gave it a spin. Considered putting it in playbox but decided against it Bloody hell, if I get slated for spinning a few 70's tunes they'd probably crucify me for spinning this

ZapatootheTiger Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Wow so you (Smiffy) were actively collecting in the Sixties? Do you still have any I wonder that you bought when you were 8/9? I can't be the only one in here who's still got pretty much all the records he's ever bought. I started in 1964 with E.M.I. record tokens I got for my 11th. birthday in June. These are the first two records I ever bought - they're still in their (admittedly battered) original sleeves and I still treasure them:
Pete S Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Picked up a 4 Seasons on original UK Philips today if anyone wants it.
Kris Holmes Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I can't believe people are paying for the 4 Seasons 45 these days, I had a pressing plant box of issues a couple of years ago, couldn't give them away & ended up binning them to get them out of my house. I like the Timebox 45 better but don't own it so the 4 Seasons one will have to do for now. The 4 Seasons version should be the same as the Frankie Valli version (although I've not seen a solo Frankie Valli version of Beggin' on 45 so maybe someone is confused). Good song, I didn't know someone had remade it.
