Guest in town Mikey Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Cheers Mark I think it depends on what kind of valuations as to which ones he is going to sell. He may decide to keep them, or move a few on. The ball is in his court really. As you have probably guessed he's no mug, so the items will be moved at the going rate.

Their other great release "Tomorrow" is a whole dfferent game though pat lewis - no one to love - solid hit would think about 1200 but a mate of mine payed 1700 for his last year Last one I know iff changed hands for slightly less than 1200 UKP and remember that a record is only worth what the next buyer is willing to pay anyhow masquaders - how - La beat 1000 Seen that too but tend to agree with the majority of the soultalkers on here that it ain`t a grand record jesse davis - gonna hang on in there girl - era 1000+ I know that JM had that for his recent auction, but... martha starr - love is the only solution - Thelma 600 Sorry, but "never in a million years" don varner - tear stained face - quinvy NEVER seen one for sale - a grand easy I'd say I was just offered one
Guest Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Never seen a Don Varner? Have you been keeping your eyes closed for the last few years? I have seen many copies over the years.
Guest Stuart T Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 link So Mark, what were you offered the Don Varner for? It rarely turns up, what was the price? I think the copy for sale here was the second to last one I know of sold (e.bay bargain btw).
Guest Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I will also take 3 mint copies of the Montclairs at £350 each, thank you.

Guest Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Pretty much all of the records listed are well known, and with fairly well documented prices too. I think the person selling knows his stuff well enough to know what to expect, eh? I'll give £400 for the Masqueraders "How" if in M/M- condition. The £1000 price was a one off freak fluke.

Guest Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 What on earth are you talking about?! There has been several copies of Don Varner for sale over recent years! Many from various UK (and US) dealers and there has also been some on ebay in the last three years or so. It is more than a year ago admittedly but Andy Dyson had one at £500 I seem to recall and I have seen several copies sold in that region. It is not a mega rarity.

Guest Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I did not buy it, since I simply don't like it £500 much, pretty good tune though. Pricewise I wouldn't be surprised if some crazy person paid £1000 for it today considering that someone just paid £819 for Freddie Chavez. Anything can happen today. Brown Bombers just sold for £720 on Manship's an hour ago, a M- copy sold for £310 maybe 6 months back on ebay, that's how it is today, you can often choose if you want to pay full price, or less than half price.

Guest Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Some conditions on the records would help so that people (like myself) can make reasonable offers and take condition into consideration. A description of "all EX unless stated" is not precise enough IMO. Does anyone have an idea what a reasonable price would be for Miki Farrow, for a definite original in top condition. Any theories?

I swear a lot of people reading this site have no idea how many copies of these records are around. Last one I bought was £125, less than 3 years ago. link I will buy 4 copies if I can have them all for £1000, no joke. I have been reliably informed that there were loads of copies about in the not too distant past, and I recall when I started out that I saw it at £100 and £150 a number of times, then a few times at £200, then I did not see it so much. Problem is I did not spend hundreds on records initially (which seems rather natural to me, you learn and progress, not like today when clueless beginners throw hundreds at common cheapies!) and I did not buy it when I had the chance. Seems to be one of those records were most copies around were literally brought to the UK and sold cheap initially since there were piles of them. Same thing with Carol Anderson (Whip), Billy Hambric (Drum), you don't see any clean copies from the US on some of these records, it is the same few hundred (?) copies in the UK that circulate, at least that is my theory. Their Soultown release is obviously around in larger quantities than dealers will admit, but when these copies are gone and after all is said and done, I think it is a much rarer record than "How".
