Add Mark Wilson to the list - his copy came via Rob Marriott.

Nick Brown's copy came via Richie Conn (I think).

Do we know who's hands the ebay copy ended up in?

You mean the ebay copies I think, there has been more than one. One ended not so long ago and I recall the winners ID, but not sure who it is, and if I was I wouldn't tell.

No one gives Rob any credit at all for spinning this, would be early 90's...around '92. He was deffo first to play it, got it frrom Tim Brown who got two copies, Nick Stevenson was offered first pick but declined

Rob' playlist was amazing when you look back at it. I remember him being called Rob 'Floorclearer' Marriott in a magazine column, and it's amazing to think of the number of records which are enormous (and I mean ENORMOUS!) now which he played to empty floors. Was he first to play the Hyperions, covered up as the Escorts, or did someone else play it first? I remember he bought loads of stuff from one of Keb's sell-ups, including the Moments on Hog, when it was just the Edgewood acetate, and the Charmaines "Standing In The Need Of Love", among others. He was a very forward-thinking DJ who had a lot of really tremendous sounds before they were well known, and I don't think he ever really got the credit he deserved.

Incidentally, my copy did come from Richie.

All the best,

Nick

No, it's not Marc. There was another copy sold from someone in the UK to someone in the UK not that long ago. It went relatively cheap too. I later checked the feedback and the buyer (a frequent big spender on ebay) apparently got the record and was happy with it. I did see the one you mention too though, it was sold by someone in the USA.

I found it. A copy was sold on ebay and ended March the 13th this year, less than two months ago in other words. The price was $2400 US.

Agreed, we were chomping at the bit at venues waiting for Rob to take the decks, Sandy Golden, Philadelphians C/U (Tranells), Hyperions, Johnny Taylor and a host of stuff he got from Keb and Jim Wensiora

Never a fully clear floor if I was about.

Good lad too "Youth!!"

just confirmed Rob Thomas doesnt have a copy

Look and you will become aware. I think many were scared off due to no picture and poor item description, buyer took a chance and made a bargain it seems. I don't rate the record that highly myself so I consider 2400 very much though.

Re - Robs plays:

I wasn't around at the time, so I always am wary of commenting on this kinda stuff but I thought the Hyperions was a Steve Smith record? That's what I was led to believe.

Rob certainly played the Hyperions c/u as Escorts-"I'm so in love with you" in the early 90's at Allanton and the Claremont amongst other places. The post earlier on this thread saying how he never got the recognition he deseved was spot on. The unknowns he had were friggin' incredible. We wre lucky Rob enjoyed our local night at the Claremont and was happy to come up to Edinburgh regularly playing unissued Groovesville stuff, "Love on a leaseplan", the original acetate of Four Larks "You need love",etc..brilliant toons that were certainly appreciated by those in attendance. Rob put the Soul Inc. track on a tape we gave away 50 copies of as an anniversary thang, c/u as Cecil Washington "It will Last", the following month everyone was talking about it and the track became a big sound. I was lucky enough to buy the record from Rob a few months later and was mighty impressed when the c/u label came off to reveal Cecil had written the song and the Propnonics Studio address around the label.

Mark do you still have a copy?

Are we sure from this thread of how many there are yet?

Janine, Yeah I've still got it, at the time Rob sold it to me there were only two, that one and Tim Brown had one. That was about '93 I think. Keith Money got one not very long after me, then one of the Aberdeen lads as well. I thought then loads would turn up, as people in Scotland were starting to get thier hands on copies reasonably quickly. Looks like I was wrong!

OK lets shed some light on this from the horses mouth..

Initally 3 copies came directly to M.Koppel from Cecil.

Tim had one Martin had the second and the third went to Rob M.

I bought the second copy from M.Koppel when he sold up before he listed it as I new he had one after talking to Tim B about it in the Mid 90,s..Keith Moneys copy came a couple of years later via Shifty.I sold my copy to Dave Flynn then a year later got in contact with the guy who told me he had actually been the band manager and got his copy plus the story of how no demos made and the band only took one box on tour locally to give away as freebees. The rest sat on the shelf in the Mt morris studio in flint Michigan(if memory serves me correct.)

The label owner called Paul Potts (maybe related to Ady) or not as the case maybe.

He could not afford to keep up the rent payments on the office so he was evicted and all stock that was on the shelves was trashed into the skip./..This was the managers his version...he was still incontact with one of the guys who was general dogsbody at the time in the office

and he was supposedly a bit of a bin scratcher so he told me he would try to contact him and see if he had any more copies..but alas that was the last I ever heard from him..I cant even remember his bloody name now either..So Can I claim to be the only fool to have had two copies and sell them both..doh??

hope this is of intrest to some of you chasers of the black gold .

Ted,

Mansfield update

Rocoe Rose is still around in mansfield but not on the scene

Chris Marriott left the Mining Industry and is now a College lecturer in Graphic Design and art at Nottingham Polly. He still kept most of his un-issued stuff

Jimmy Wensiora disappeared into the mystical world of the Showmans guild at Blackpool and Mablethorpe and now has a collection of fair ground rides instead of his record collection which was the grounding for most of todays rare scene as we know it.

Rob Marriott, well what can you say, painting and decorating in the mansfield area an absolute crying shame sandi Golden, et al all gone ! Tragic

Chris Shaw sold all his raities in dribs and drabs and goes mountain biking

Rob Wigley what happened to him ?

Your right Ted The Hyperions Rob played belonged to Steve Smith initially. Sandy Golden Rob sold to Richard Searling for a couple of grand, three records involved iin the deal if memory serves me correctly.

Fit like the day min,hiv ye ony mair oh at Soul inc's in yer pooch..or skulkin hinner tae yer wank chariot.

I feel this dialect may not have got me the answer I rquired.

roughly translated means for the suferners means

Good morning sir.Would you happen to have any more copies of the Soul Incorporated 45 in your pocket or hiding underneath your bed.

hence email is the best option..when dealing with anyone south of Edinburgh..
