Guest Dirk Tiggler Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Went for a walk up Brown Clee today, great views over Shropshire & Wales. Went past the Down Hotel & the Punch Bowl on the Ludlow road going out of Bridgnorth en route. Anybody go there in the early 70's? Great Sat nights at the Down around 73,74. Not exactly Northern but a normal soul disco as I remember. I do remember N/S at Punch Bowl though, I think Pep played there a few times. Bloody hell, just realised it was 36 years ago, don't suppose anyone on here went... Ade
Pete S Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 No but by a strange coincidence, Sam asked me if we could go up there today and feed the sheep like we did last year! If you park on the side of the road, the sheep come up to the cars for food.

Yeah, the sheep attack you as soon as you park the car & they aint too fussy what's on your sandwiches, they'll eat anything. This is Brown Clee by Ditton Priors and you have to walk about 2 miles to reach the top, can't be reached by car. There's a small monument on top to 23 German & Allied aircraft personnel who died from exposure after ditching the plane on top of the hill & after yesterday I can well believe it. Ade

Didn't know the Punch Bowl had a reputation but you know what happens when the Black Country lot meet up with county yokels & get pissed! The biggest punch up I remember was at the Bandon Arms, Bridnorth, by the island at the bottom of the hill when you come in from W-ton. There was a coach party from Wombourne Rugby Club who got it on with the locals, the fight lasted for about 1/2 hour & it was the biggest fracas I've ever seen...must have involved 40 to 50 people. My mate & I sat up the corner with our girlfriends and kept 'a low profile' if you know what I mean. Happy days, see you soon Ade
