Guest livelikeasailor Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 hope not what sad person would want to go,it's like saying chris burton is putting a bash on in hose street lol I WOULD WANT TO GO ! Really enjoyed the last one, not every day/year you find your self dancing in the middle of a shopping Arcade? What do you mean when you say " It's like Chris Burton is putting a bash on in hose street lol " ? ? ? Katy Walker ( Brown ) Colwyn Bay Proud to say(me) she is a very good friend of Harry Thomas (mad),his love of Soul Music spans just over forty years or so, one of his most favourite sounds ............ Chris Jackson, I'll Never forget you Girl. Now does anyone remember someone on here, asking if anyone new what the very same tune sounded like , as he was thinking about buying it? Somebody replied saying it was rubbish. The person thinking of buying it suddenly remembers it now,(WHAT!?) and agrees , it is rubbish !! Now that is what I call "SAD" The amount of times I've wanted to reply to some "not my cup of tea" shite,on here, putting my true feelings on view, are just a small handful. (HA!) The amount of times I have wanted to shout to the DJ, "GET OFF, CANT YOU SEE THE DANCE FLOORS EMPTY?" due to their determination on wanting to "EDUCATE" the punters with RARE, CONNOISSEUR , HANG YOURSELF FROM THE HIGHEST RAFTERS BIN FODDER.
TOAD Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 CONNOISSEUR , HANG YOURSELF FROM THE HIGHEST RAFTERS BIN FODDER. wtf is that all about

"bin fodder" pete n ' susan Well Casper---very sad----i thought we had free speech in this country-----when i went to Wigan in 1975 i didn,t want to hear music made in 1935 so why do people now want to hear music made 40 yrs. ago---we have got 40 yrs of good soul to go at try some great stuff made in the last 5--10 yrs T.C.
Guest KEN-SOUL Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 because thats what it is.... thats why they have empty venues or shoved in a small back room where they belong... ha! he is right what he says ! "bin fodder" pete n ' susan What has bothered me since the late 70's, is why certain well known d'js played the odd "pop" record from time to time! I found this most disturbing, and effing annoying! Why did they do it? Will one of you d'js from the 70's COME ON AND EXPLAIN YOURSELF, DAMN IT!

grantdyche Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) typical OLDIES FAN reply would be okay if they knew what they were talking about just stick to your baggy trousers and circle skirts This is the type of attitude that split the Northern scene in the 70's,The oldies vs The newies, After all these years and after so many songs slagged off by numerous people on The Northern scene is it not now time to let sleeping dogs lie, With this genre of music now even maybe bigger than in the past, and with more younger people becoming aware of it,Should we not embrace both camps, However I must state that Iam an oldies bloke and I was in the 70's,LIke to dance and look at dancers and listen to some good tunes,Some of the newer tunes I listen to I have to think about,The same way I listened to The Carstairs"It really hurts me girl", Well that blew my mind f**k me thats new and soul, This was in the 70's And now in the 21st century the same arguments / discussions, As for the comment about "Baggy trousers & Split Skirts",I can only say that without them we would not be having this discussion now,The many people on this thread who went to Wigan,Stafford,Cleethorpes etc, Are the real reason that this genre of music is still so popular,As I have said before in many different forums about Northern Soul,We the oldies are the "Faith Keepers",not a new fad for us but a continuation of a fantastic musical taste, and I and many other SOULIES welcome you, because you are the next generation Keep The Faith Grant Edited April 8, 2009 by grantdyche

No news on that but if you want to relive those wigan memories I found this: The 0fficial 37th WIGAN CASINO ANNIVERSARY. SATURDAY, September 26th 2009 at the KING GEORGES HALL, Blackburn, Lancs. Richard Searling and Smooth Radio in association with Kev Roberts for Goldsoul present a fabulous night of nostalgia at this prestigious venue in the North West. 3 rooms of Northern Soul, Modern Grooves and Jazz Funk Anthems with DJ's COLIN CURTIS, ANDY DAVIES, BOB HINSLEY, TERRY DAVIES, GINGER TAYLOR, IAN BAD VIBES, BARRY MALEADY and Guest DJ's. Ticket only. Call 01254-582582 to reserve yours
Ian Parker Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 well if the above is true, it looks like Russ wont be doing 'the 36th'. Blackburn appeals to me, but how can it be a celebration of the Casino with a room playing 'jazz funk anthems' ??
Citizen P Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I am not an apologist for RW, but it looks as though it is actually OK to cash in on all the Casino nostalgia so long as your name is not Winstanley. Tony
Guest gordon russell Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 If Russ Winstanley played the SHITHOUSE DOOR you oldies only lot would wanna still hear it now.Funny how the oldies only crowd say the stuff played now ..ain't up to it.....yeh while they still dance to barbera mills, april stevens, falbala and all that pop shit they used to play...just because they played it at wigin.....the only two newer records that they seem to love was ....joey delorenzo and joe jama.....funnily enough two bits of pop shite you would never hear at a proper upfront nighter
Ian Parker Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 If Russ Winstanley played the SHITHOUSE DOOR you oldies only lot would wanna still hear it now.Funny how the oldies only crowd say the stuff played now ..ain't up to it.....yeh while they still dance to barbera mills, april stevens, falbala and all that pop shit they used to play...just because they played it at wigin.....the only two newer records that they seem to love was ....joey delorenzo and joe jama.....funnily enough two bits of pop shite you would never hear at a proper upfront nighter i find you quite offensive my friend. firstly i am not an 'oldies only' type of guy. i have quite an eclectic taste when it comes to music. having played drums in a few bands over the past few years i consider myself very open minded about all types of music! when it comes to the music of our scene, theres only one type for me - SOUL. i dont care if its 60's , 70's or anything else, its about the content. as for pop shite, i think you'll find that has been played at just about every venue i've ever been to in 31 yrs of frequenting soul clubs. I also firmly believe that the 'Northern' scene could do without the ultra modern stuff that i've had to endure over the last few years (just my opinion). as someone said a few posts ago...... keep that in a back room (or the local night club) I dont usually say my bit on forums but some of us actually like/love classic uptempo 60's rare soul, im one of them! it bugs me that folk slag off the nostalgia thing, i enjoy a good oldies night, kingsway hall, grosvenor rooms, kings hall etc etc all play lots of quality tunes. i also visit plenty of 'across the board' nights and let people enjoy whatever kind of music is played. if i dont like a certain tune, i dont insist the DJ removes it from the deck, i live and let live. i'd also like to say that a huge amount of 'oldies' really get on my nerves, whether ive heard em once or a thousand times. lets just enjoy what we like, if we dont like certain aspects of the northern soul scence then dont indulge. as people say, "there are many styles to suit many tastes" p.s. i will be wearing my baggies tonight at an 'across the board' night.
Guest gordon russell Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 was my post directed specificly at you....NO... not at all, more in the context of this thread. .everyone is entitled to an opinion.......from my experience......that's my conclution, and opinion atb
