i have a vinyl copy of this. i've mainly seen it on styrene though.

Oh! - I never knew it came out on vinyl till now! Did your copy also have a promo sticker by the way? The reason I ask is 'cos 70s Columbia/Epic promos (and distributed labels such as PIR/TSOP etc) were often pressed on vinyl rather than the usual styrene, and I wondered if that's why this one was on vinyl?

I'm not up on this subject enough to really add anything to this discussion but would CBS and it's satellite labels ever have needed to cut corners and press stuff on reconstituted styrene?

:lol:  I'm sorry, but what are you talking about? Who said anything about reconstituted styrene?

I have since understood that I have possibly made a faux pas, giving you the opporunity to big yourself up on your undesrtanding of all things vinyl.

So!

I've done you a favour in reality - don't get on me case, you can rattle on about this for ages now.

I think all of the Okeh's are on both vinyl and styrene to be honest, but in the case of this one, I don't remember having a vinyl copy - except for the Canadian Epic one I finally managed to get Soul Sam to sell me in 1979 (out of his main box, he couldn't refuse £22)

Just pulled my copy of this - its vinyl not styrene - its identical to the one in your post. Scan attached.

Best

John

Major Harris "Call Me Tomorrow" - From the scan, this looks to me like it's a VINYL record. I've never seen a vinyl copy of this before. Is it for real - or are my eyes playing tricks?

The scan directly above looks like the styrene issue, as opposed to the ebay one which is definitely vinyl. A lot of the later Okeh 45s are on both materials.

You're absolutely right the one I posted is a glued on label and styrene ................sign of approaching dementia - medication and eye test required ph34r.gif

my vinyl copy does not have that sticker but all styrene copies i've had have had that sticker for some reason, just coincidence i guess. i can check out the deadwax and see if it's different or something but i only have a vinyl copy now and not a styrene copy so i can't compare.

Talking of Major Harris. Did anyone hear Gary Spence´s interview with Major Harris on Solar Radio earlier this week? I missed it, but am waiting for an upload of the show, since a friend of mine promised to record it. Anyone else who heard it and/or recorded it?

Just a thought. My own (styrene) copy has some evidence of sticker removal on the official A side (ie. "Like A Rolling Stone"). This suggests that many maroon label copies - not just the white demos - were given away as demos (doesn't it?) If so, how many ordinary stock copies actually went out? Ha! Wrong side promoted, half of 'em given away... Nice one. (No wonder it flopped!) :Ptongue.gif

Absolute all-time classic though of course, needless to say!

Re. Major H. djmelismo, didn't he tour the UK as a member of the Delfonics in the early 70s? Did anyone see them 'live' at that time?
