For the casual seller eBay UK now charges a listing fee then 8.75% of the selling price up to £29.99 and 5.25% of the remainder up to £599. If you get paid by paypal you lose another 4% of the total price (plus 20p charge).

So sell a £30 record and my rough calculations mean that you will be left with about £25 after listing, final price & paypal fees. On a £100 record you are left with about £89 assuming you list it at £99.99.

Some might say that 11% - 16.5% is worth it due to eBay's market reach but I packed in after the last raise in fees. My web site works fine and as I commented elsewhere; on ebay you are trying to find a buyer at your price within 7 days: not easy.

I think it is cheaper if you have a shop (and good feedback) but you then have to pay fees for the shop.

eBay has just evolved into what an auction should be; somewhere to just get rid of stuff you don't want or sell rare items that you don't know how to price. Hence the amount of sh*te generally for sale there and most of it over priced.

eBay US has gone pretty much the same way with dealers predominating and the prices either ambitious or not yet adjusted for the change in exchange rates (most NS comes to the UK or europe).

Mind you, I've still had some bargains recently

I think that 'buy off eBay but don't sell off it' is the way!!!
