chrissie Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Played Four Tops Since You've Been Gone on Saturday, what a belter! Lenny Lenny, and I thought it was the Isley's "Behind A Painted Smile" as I played it especially for your birthday last year Mine has to be Linda Griner - Good-by Cruel Love and finally got round to buying it this year and yes I do play it out...........you try stopping me This is the record that moved me off the sofa and back on to the scene a few years ago after I heard it on Sound of the Sixties on radio 2 one saturday. QoFxx
Reforee Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Most of them been cover by previous posts. Last 3 or 4 DJ spots dropped Tony Martin - "Ask any man" on Motown. Big voice, big production quite an awesome dancer and very under rated and under played IMHO. Dave
Rbman Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Frank Wilson - Til you were gone I just love that one..... Someone said the Temps version of "Truly Yours" ....brilliant version IMO....did i once see a demo of this?
Stubbsy Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Temptations - "You're Not An Ordinary Girl" on Gordy, B side of "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep"

Winsford Soul Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 So many good tunes to choose from, which considering motown was the route to Northern for us old gits, isn't surprising really. Cant beleive no one has mentioned Marvin Gaye. This love starved heart of mine ( its killing me ) Steve

No but I know someone who does - not including the Oriole, Fontana, Stateside etc etc....I've had my HANDS on the entire TamlaMotown collection ALL on demo in stock bags....I did try stuffing them all up my jumper but I got rumbled
Guest vinylvixen Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) THRILL A MOMENT- KIM WESTON YES I DJ AND WOULD ALWAYS PLAY IT PURE CLASS. So you should. This was always 'Colin and Maureen's' record at These Old Shoes. When it was their 25th wedding anniversary, they came all the way back from Venice to make sure they were at TOS. It would have been rude NOT to play 'A Thrill a Moment' for such unswerving loyalty....and Colin seranaded Maureen on the dancefloor...how very very cool Happy days Edited January 20, 2009 by vinylvixen
Britishbarry Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I Gotta let you go ~ Martha and the Vandellas

Guest Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Ill second G Knights "Shoes" And add, The Monitors "Crying in the night" Plus The Spinners "Memories of her love" Thing is, there are so many great Motown tracks, it would take a long time to add all of the ones I like to play!
Guest sadsam Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Sorry, I feel mine beats all others. Perfect northern, perfect Motown and perfect vocals from the one and only Gladys Knight with Just Walk In My Shoes. 15k for Frank Wilson or £5 for Gladys.... no competition and yes, I play it out at every venue possible. Never tire of it. just there before me, it allways has been and it allways will be
Davekd Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Great record currently on must buy eventually list QoFxx Its a nice tune, that I picked up after Kev Moore played it at our place - one of several good tips I have got from Kev. My favorite today though is The Miracles 'Whatever makes you happy' Dave

ricticman Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Changes all the time , and probably always will - but the one that comes back to the top more than any other ' just one last look ' by the Tempts . like a knife in the heart - every time I hear it I've cleared the floor a few times with it - but then always get some interest / thanks from someone for playing it - so I can live with that pete
