Paul R Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 (edited) First allnighter for 5 years at the Top Of The World Staffs to see Gene Chandler. Expecting "Get Down", "Duke Of Earl", "Groovy Situation", crap gear and not much else. He ended up doing most of his "Northern" sounds and to cap it all a handfull of dex. Also verballed with Pete Lawson for a couple of hours. The last time I saw him. all in all, a good night. Maybe not the best live act but memorable. Paul Edited May 6, 2005 by Paul r

Paul R Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Many people say that Betty Wright at Wigan was the best ever. Sorry, because it was Betty Wright at the hight of the Mecca/Wigan "wars", I went into Mr Ms until she was finished. Was she good? Saw the O'Jays and Bunny Sigler at Jacksonville colloseum in 1978 along with about 50,000 other people. I think I was the only one shouting for "Working On Your Case", "I Dig Your Act", "Girl Don't Make Me Wait" etc.....Didn't sing any of them. Good gig though. Paul
Daved Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 I used to go to a load of gigs but the ones I've enjoyed most were; Anita Baker / Perri - Wembley 1990 Stevie Wonder - Royal Albert Hall 1993 Bill Withers / Pieces Of A Dream / Gerald Albright - Hammy O- 1989 Prince (Lovesexy tour) - Wembley 1988 Jean Carne - Dominion 1988
Pete S Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Best soul act seen - Junior Walker, Wigan 1977 missed most of the others due to same as Paul, going into M's when acts came on Best other act seen - David Bowie, Rotterdam 1983 or Ash, Hastings 1994

lisa vanner Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 not a very pleasent experiance failing that will have to be Edwin Starr @ butilins a month befor he passed on link Im with you on this one Bond (not the flying scotsman) but seeing Edwin Starr just before he passed away. Have seen him on several occassions and never failed to disappoint, he was one of the best live acts made it look so easy & natural and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Remeber years ago when he was appearing at a club in Milton Keynes I managed to get on stage with him for a few seconds and had a sing with him! Awesome ah. Wish we'd have kidnapped him and taken him back to the chalet now. (Mental note: Must learn to trust instincts more often)

Worse still is having to listen to the CD on the way home, and fund the growth of G UNIT. Time marches on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ed
