Hi there,

just wondered what peoples experience/recollections of seeing soul artists live are, and who their favourite has been? I've seen a few myself, including......

Junior Walker(Dingwalls, London, 80's)

Curtis Mayfield(Dingwalls, Town and Country Club, 80's)

Percy Sledge(Town and Country Club, 80's)

James Browns Funky People(Maceo Parker, Lynn Collins, e.t.c @ Town and Country, 80's)

Eddie Floyd(Cricketers, Kennington, London, 80's)

Geno Washington(Putney Half Moon, London, 80's)

Gil Scott Heron(Town /Country, 80's)

Eddie Holman, Chuck Jackson, Gene Chandler, J.J. Barnes(Yarmouth Wekender, 90's)

Ray Pollard(100 Club, 90's)

Terry Callier(100 Club, 90's

Tony Middleton(100 Club, 90's)

My fav' has to be Ray Pollard!!!.......AWESOME!!!!!!

I would have loved to have seen Jackie Wilson..........

Be interesting to read about memories.

First allnighter for 5 years at the Top Of The World Staffs to see Gene Chandler. Expecting "Get Down", "Duke Of Earl", "Groovy Situation", crap gear and not much else. He ended up doing most of his "Northern" sounds and to cap it all a handfull of dex. Also verballed with Pete Lawson for a couple of hours. The last time I saw him. all in all, a good night.

Maybe not the best live act but memorable.

Many people say that Betty Wright at Wigan was the best ever. Sorry, because it was Betty Wright at the hight of the Mecca/Wigan "wars", I went into Mr Ms until she was finished. Was she good?

Saw the O'Jays and Bunny Sigler at Jacksonville colloseum in 1978 along with about 50,000 other people. I think I was the only one shouting for "Working On Your Case", "I Dig Your Act", "Girl Don't Make Me Wait" etc.....Didn't sing any of them. thumbsup.gif Good gig though.

I used to go to a load of gigs but the ones I've enjoyed most were;

Anita Baker / Perri - Wembley 1990

Stevie Wonder - Royal Albert Hall 1993

Bill Withers / Pieces Of A Dream / Gerald Albright - Hammy O- 1989

Prince (Lovesexy tour) - Wembley 1988

Jean Carne - Dominion 1988

 Im with you on this one Bond (not the flying scotsman) but seeing Edwin Starr just before he passed away. Have seen him on several occassions and never failed to disappoint, he was one of the best live acts made it look so easy & natural and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Remeber years ago when he was appearing at a club in Milton Keynes I managed to get on stage with him for a few seconds and had a sing with him! Awesome ah. Wish we'd have kidnapped him and taken him back to the chalet now. (Mental note: Must learn to trust instincts more often) wink.gif

The Yarmouth Weekenders had some great acts, great weekends too.

Chuck Jackson the best, spent thje day with him watched him rehearse, bollock Snake Davis and co up and down dale...awesome set that night.

Popcorn Wylie at Yarmouth. Gilly brought him round our chalet, had a bottle of my vodka and told some amazing stories about his life.

Yarmouth again, Gene Chandler, Eddie Holman, Ray Pollard...awesome!! and many more, great days.

Bringing things up to date, I've been the taxi driver to the following acts in the last 2 years. 50 CENT, USHER, SNOOP DOGG, THE GAME, R KELLY, LEMAR, SEAN PAUL, AND MORE.

Worse still is having to listen to the CD on the way home, and fund the growth of G UNIT.

Time marches on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
