George G
anyone ? kev I've had this record, it's as a (US) west coast folk rock sound. The songs were written by Warren Zevon and Randy Newman. Those names should tell you if this record is for you. - George Link to comment Social source share

Sunnysoul
I've had this record, it's as a (US) west coast folk rock sound. The songs were written by Warren Zevon and Randy Newman. Those names should tell you if this record is for you. - George George, I take it you are implying that because Warren Zevon and Randy Newman are involved then it probably isn't "soul" related. In actual fact Randy Newman was the composer of more than a few bona fide classic soul tunes from the 60's. He was also a favoured songsmith for many 60's girl group producers. Jerry Butler's "I Dont Want To Hear It Anymore" on VJ is one soul classic off the top of my head that immediately comes to mind, and later Wilson Pickett's storming " Mama Told Me Not To Come " on Atlantic (kills 3 Dog Night's version !). There would be many others if one were to do a bit of net researching ... Here's some others I'll Be Home Lorraine Ellison Friday Night OJays While the City Sleeps Irma Thomas Love Is Blind Erma Franklin Somebody's Waiting Gene McDaniels So I would say to people never to instantly dismiss a record just because Randy Newman is in the credits !
