Sadly though, you're bound to end up with a few dogs that look like they've been kicked down the street. I know I have. My advice would be don't bid too much, and expect the worse. A lot of sellers will send a soundfile taken from the actual record, so it's always worth asking. s

davidwapples Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 also depends on if its american or uk americans dont use excellent so a vg from the usa is slightly higher grading usually i have afew 45s that look crap so graded vg but play fine but have others that sound like there is a frying pan in the background
John Elias Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 visually it would look used but not abused(that would be vg-). Audibly I would expect a bit of crackle at the intro and during quiet spots in the tune,but overall would plays nice and loud with no skips or jumps.

A lot of sellers will send a soundfile taken from the actual record, so it's always worth asking. s the sound file was pretty accurate on the a side few sratches and 1 o2 crackles my sony phono might be a tad sensitive b side is a concern loads of scratches all one side in a line like its been dragged along floor...no jumping or missing ect just loads of crackles..its a shame cos i got it at a good price for a dj copy...thanks steve going for mint cond in future might be best bet surely theres no leeway with mint ???or is there???

Supercorsa Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Personally I won't bid on anything graded as VG. The only exception being if there is a good quality soundclip (which proves it's not knackered) and it is from the actual record for sale.

45cellar Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Can be Difficult especially when a New seller describes a Record as in Very Good Condition. They may not be aware of the Grading System at all. I have been more than Pleasantly surprised with records described thus, Absolutely Mint when they arrive. Agree with comments regarding U.S.A. Sellers, their Vg & Vg+ can be UK Vg+ & Ex+

Have had both positive and negative experiences with vg records, feedback helps to figure out the sellers grading policy.... Regarding british and american grading I had worse experiences with the british ex than the american vg+.

I'm neither a DJ nor a knob twiddler so I woudln't know if you can make the pops and crackles sound quiet whilst the vocal sounds clear and loud.
