Guest Brett F Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Just wondered if anyone else had the Africa L.P. " Music from Lil Brown", mines on a French label (name escapes me?) i believe it also came out on Ode, the group has Brice Coefield, Gary Pipkin, Chester Pipkin, Ed Wallace as the group members, certain it was recorded in France while the artists were living there, bit of an oddball album but i recall a decent crossover track in amongst it all. Chris Morgan (Taste Of Honey) played the album to me some years back(thats where i heard it first). Only mention it because i was just looking at various artists via the web and came across it (had totally forgotten the album). Brett
Guest john s Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I've got it on US Ode, decent psychy/funk LP, I put a track on a compilation I did for Harmless a few years back....
mikeysoul Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 'Widow' on the LP is a pretty good folk-funk type track. Is that the one you put on the comp John?

Brett I've got it Brett, but to be honest there's nothing too hot on there as I recall. I'll have another listen. Jordi
Agent45 Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I thought it was recorded in Ohio, but maybe getting it confused with some other band? Maybe Brute Force?
Julianb Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 I've got it Brett, but to be honest there's nothing too hot on there as I recall. I'll have another listen. Jordi Think Richard Searling raves about the 'think about me' track on this LP( I know he paid £100 for his copy). Also Dave Rivers plays this track in some of his sets (inc Prestatyn last year) Got a spare at £30 if any one is interested Julian

Dave Thorley Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) I stand corrected Mr Rivers Julian It must be a west coast thing as the Pipkin brothers are from there, also the guys behind such great tracks as Tate-Love shop and Paris-Sleepless night Chester was originally in the doo wop group The Squires I love 'From Africa with love', which also came out as a single Edited January 12, 2009 by Dave Thorley
Ian Dewhirst Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Also it should get an award for surely the most bizarre sleeve of all time from memory. Isn't it just a picture of a shack or something.........? Ian D

Didn't the Pipkins songwriting credits pop up on some Motown stuff too? I know they worked with Frank Wilson on 'Sleepless Nights'....oh to be been a fly on that studio wall I don't know the Africa LP at all....must go and listen x
