Not forgetting Seven Souls - which is 'money' to be fair.  Don't know anyone who doesn't like it (including Pete).

BTW, take it that's your scooter in the avatar?  Was tring to work out what it was 200 forks, SX mudguard LI headlight.  Is it a Special or a highbrid?

link

Agree with the Seven Souls, excellent.

The scoot is an LI 125. Panels, mudguard are standard, but with front dampers and a 175 kit.

I authentic soul records that are also proper tunes, like "Open The Door To Your Heart" (by Darrell Banks of course). If you don't like that you don't like soul, period. Same goes for JJ Barnes "Please Let Me In".

if you dont like this you must be dead always liked that saying

No good mentioning Frank Wilson because someone trying to be clever will say it's rubbish.

What about

George Blackwell - Can't lose my head

Robert Parker - Caught you in a lie

Inspirations - No one else can take your place

Bobby Hutton - Come see what's left of me

Dynamics - I need your love

Tim Tam - Wait a minute

link

Oh Pete!

So close to agreeing with you there. But Tim Tam? :D:D:D:thumbsup:

What's about the Tan Geers "LMH&SBF"...? Maybe a bit overplayed, but still capable of sending a shiver down my spine every time I hear it...

Good choice, but as you say, a little overplayed

Several send shivers down my spine but few others would like them.

That's ok then Christian, since you live so far away from 'where the actions at' you won't need to.......

WOOF!

link

I got bored with it (was never madly in love it or anything, but I did think it was pretty nice) mainly due to overexposure at UK events I attended.

Seven Souls is OK but I was bored sick of it many years ago and don't really want to hear it out.

link

Yeah probably agree with that. Not a current biggie for me either - but does have the mass appeal over a long period of time.

Despite having heard this endless times and owning several copies, I still couldn't hum the tune to you, that's how forgettable I find this track...other side is poor as well

Right, this track is simply faultless :shhh:

If anyone says anything bad about this, I'll take you to the fcukin' cleaners, Pal.

Pat Lewis - No One To Love - Solid Hit

The emotions that come out every time I hear this overwhelm me.

:lol:wink.gif:P

Rarity AND Quality. Very rare combination indeed.

When I used to work in an office there were about 10 of us in there and we all liked different sorts of music, like me with soul and reggae, someone was into heavy metal, couple of old dears into middle of the road music and so on, anyway we always used to take it in turns playing compilation tapes and we only ever agreed on one single record that all of us liked......

cruel to be kind by Nick Lowe

Not Showaddywaddy then? :shhh:wink.gif

Harold Melvin - Prayin'

As the title of the thread was "universally accepted" its a bit of a stretch to find something thats accepted in both northern & modern rooms.

Have noticed that when something like Drizabone - Pressure gets played in the northern room, it becomes the kiss of death for it in the modern room!

Hmmm.

I do like them both, but wouldn't have thought they'd have 'Universal Appeal'. Maybe to the more open-minded, but not everyone. If I'm honest, they're a bit tired for me personally. Funny how it gets you when you're in one of those 'Not that again' moods :shhh:

It's gonna be hard, appealing to 60's and 70's + fans at the same time.

The Epitome of Sound - You don't love me.

Definitely a 'Desert Island' disc for me.

Its never a good idea to generalise.

Its also not unreasonable to think that there's a record that you like, that will also appeal to 70s fans. Its just a case of trying a bit harder.......

Col.

link

Well, im predominantly a 70's fan but Pete has already agreed earlier in the thread on the Al Kent track, so it can be done.

B***OX TO BEING BORED WITH POSSIBLY THE 2 BEST TRAX MENTIONED YET,  :shhh:

DUKESY'S MISSUS

With the Constellations I was trying to think of a record that is truly universally accepted. Its played at nighters, modern gigs, Caister, rare groove / funk gigs - all over the world and enjoyed by a huge cross section of people. Not many records are appreciated like that.

 Totally agree (having to borrow my wifes log-in wont log out) a fantastic tune. Nearly got this in the eighties for £60 English Pounds off Rob Smith as it was cracked. Didnt go back to him quick enough and Mr Fortum got there first and probably cheaper :diablo: Well done Carl thumbsup.gif

The record has illuded me since but I'll get you if its the last thing I do HAHHAHAHAH. :P

Who's that in your avatar Baz

link

:shhh: We know Bazbond personally  The picture is infact an up to date profile of Mr Bond. At soul nights & nighters he likes to undergo an ageing process and pretends to be 25 with boyish looks. Most of the soulies havent fallen for this disguise but I feel as part of the soul source family you all have a right to know. BeWARE thumbsup.gif

Sorry mate 'universally accepted' does not read 'overplayed'

The way I'm reading this thread is that the record should be acceptable to both sides of the scene - modern & northern. As we are primarily a dance scene you should be able to dance to it in the modern room (up & down) & in the northern room (side to side) :shhh:

So here's 5 that should fit the bill:

Bobby Womack - Home Is Where The Heart Is

Lou Pride - Bringin Me Back Home

Towana - Wear Your Natural Baby

Patrinell Staten - Little Love Affair

Buddy Miles - Just A Kiss Away

Col

ps 'overplayed' reads 'cardinal sin' in my book.

pps not a dig at you as you're a top DJ
