Kev agree with the family part it would be nice if promoters spoke to each other however it seems it's not good to talk lol
Guest Soultown andy Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 agree with the family part it would be nice if promoters spoke to each other however it seems it's not good to talk lol Its pointless as is the niter calendar, niters soul nites popping up weekly but theres no law against it and at the end of the day the feet decide.Fook knows how many do,s were on sat with a lot of fri nite clubs suddenly changeing to a xmas special on the sat a few were full a lot werent.
Guest Beeks Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 few were full a lot werent. I was thinking it was a little quiet on Saturday at yours Andy

I still think that niter promoters should plan ahead and talk to other niter promoters so that one niter per weekend or is this asking for to much. The niter scene needs this to keep numbers up. With the soul nite it seems to a local
Guest Soultown andy Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I was thinking it was a little quiet on Saturday at yours Andy just you me and 750 ,i seriously do think its pointless trying to structure any kind of calendar as their will always be clashes now. Some are unavoidable as certain venues are only available on certain dates etc etc,and some will clash anyway just human nature and as i say everyones entitled to run a venue if their daft inuf,if its any good or not is another matter entirely
Guest Beeks Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 On a serious note as a former promoter of a very successful contemporary soul night for many years I really do think that there is a MASSIVE over saturation of very similar nights on this scene...while there are a handful of promoters that will try and push the musical boundaries...the majority stick to tried and tested old formulas...which for awhile may seem attractive to punters but in the long run negates to 'same old same old' I'm starting up a new night in March in Manchester but to be honest i'm steering clear of the 'classic' soul night format and am going down the R&B/Garage/Mod route...the kids are going crazy for it at the moment and I know I will get them through the door...too many Northern nights to compete with here so i'm doing my own thing as usual
Guest bazrico Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I am so glad not to be in promoting scene when i ran winsford we did our best not to clash i think we achived that, how you might say that booking the civic 12 months in advance then moving dates if we could AND TALKING TO OTHER PROMOTERS
Rugby Soul Club Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I am so glad not to be in promoting scene when i ran winsford we did our best not to clash i think we achived that, how you might say that booking the civic 12 months in advance then moving dates if we could AND TALKING TO OTHER PROMOTERS ...Bloody hell, I wish you were still promoting it then. We were the only allniter on in Feb 2009 on the allniter planner and Winsford took the same nite to run their "last ever" even tho Winsford Steve told them it clashed... I like to think most of us try and avoid clashes and do talk (defo more than used to) but sometimes it can't be helped. We have to pre-book our dates years in advance, if only we could do it yearly, it would be so much easier to change.
Chalky Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) Some promoters do look what others are doing and do look at the bigger picture and do try their best to avoid clashes but it's virtually impossible to avoid a clash of some sort and many are not interested in the greater good of the scene. Many promotions are also dictated to by the venue owners and available dates at said venue. Edited December 29, 2008 by chalky

Having spoke to you a while ago at soul do i was looking forward to making a visit to Rugby can't promise i will make it this time depends on what time i get away from Winsford. Winsford booked the hall YEAR in advance then we would speak to Neil Clowes, Ady (he even did a spot at winsford) Little Scotty, then i would put flyers out with the forth coming year dates , Tried a few times to speak to other Promoters, And i think we got it right Talk is good

Guest kid mohair Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I think by having a bit of respect for others and not putting on something that is a stones throw away from a do that as been going a while and pulls in the crowds ,unless the two are of different styles of music i think that is OK, yes there is so much on and sometimes it is impossible to choose but the quality dos always gets our attendants, i remember a while back on the events there was a soul do on every day of the week... and can anybody list how many weekenders there is now , i think a lot of you will be shocked.
Guest Soultown andy Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 (edited) We book middleton 2 years in advance have kept more or less the same dates and advertise them 1 year in advance.Just look at december alone 6 weeks ago you wouldnt have found half of the events listed advertised anywere.A lot of em have been practicaly empty but they have effected a lot of other established venues. And there is no sour grapes from us our average attendace is 500 and over 750 in last sat against god knows how many events,so these days have agreed with everyone involved with middleton to advertise well in advance and go with it.
