Well it looks bobbins to me as a Motown collector. Just think what they coulda done although Im assuming this is for the US market.

ROD

No it's for the UK market and rather than put an unissued on vinyl track on the B side they've repeated what they did for the last batch of Motown 45s and that means mostly stuff that's already on vinyl and one crumb. Last time it was Chris Clark's version of Do i Love you

What crumb??

(Sorry - forgot you couldn't get a legal Marvin Gaye aprt from the 90's limited issue - so yes, that is ONE crumb amongst 50)

Personally I think they have missed the mark badly.

If they think to get sales they needed to put together a set of more commercial tracks so joe bublic will buy them. Wrong, as they don't buy wax records.

If they are aimed at collectors, most have these tracks and would rather have the originals and would be looking for tracks that they couldn't get any other way on wax ie un-released

Another example of how Motown over the recent years have lost touch with their market. IMHO

I read the blurb and assumed "adaptor" meant "big hole" and therefore US.

No excuse really then. It reads like one of those ads for collectible figurines you find at the back of a weekend glossy pull-out.

Anyone know which genius is responsible? No one on here I hope.

Completely agree with Dave T. There are decent 45s there but those of interest to most of us are not that expensive anyway on original although difficult to find in Mintish condition sometimes. "Love starved heart" would be nice to have on a legit issue but why put Frank on the flip when I think it's still available with Chris Clark flip. Why not another Marvin track?

As for some of the other "classics" £4.99 is dearer than the original release. Surely car boot fairs can't be running out of "Three times a Lady" already?

Why not another Marvin track?

ROD

How about "Hangin On"?, brilliant imo

Lenny

Lenny they could put out quite a few Marvin 45s such as Lonely Lover, My love for you, Sweet Thing, When I feel the need etc with enough other unissued tracks by him to go on the flips.

If like Harry Secombe, I ruled the World, we'd be well into the new 5001 series of previously unavailable Motown cuts.

Sadly would like to have seen better placed music on these vinyl releases but there is at least 1 or 2 worth owning if you can't afford the original. I am assuming the Velvelettes original is worth up to £100.

What they on Andy. Black TMG?

ROD

I reckon no. 24 is the dogs bollocks eh Rod..........

I mean really, at the risk of repeating Dave Thorleys comments earlier, just who is this aimed at realistically ?

Like Dave said, any real record collectors will already have most of what they want from this little list and to think of the wealth of stuff they could have used is a real, real shame. These wont sell in any real quantities anyway and the Suits at Universal[or whoever runs Motown now] will just turn round and say"See i told you no one wanted records anymore"........

Sad state of affairs.

Now im off to check my Lionel Richie records laugh.gif:):)

Im a bit confused now as altho you saw them for sale, supposedly first batch not available until Feb 2009. It wasn't just a promotional display then?

You also mentioned "box set" which is actually how I read the original blurb. It looked to me like they were to be sold as sets of 5 45s making £25 each roughly. I don't know if that's right but your reference to "box set" looks like that's the case.

I don't expect you to know for sure Andy but I wonder if anyone does. I mean it does also say £4.99 each which would suggest you could buy them individually.

Some thought has obviously been given to the NS market but more with an eye on sales I guess than to actually cater intelligently to that niche.
