Godzilla Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Sold mine about 4 years ago for around £350 if I remember rightly and I'd expect JM's copy to go for double that easily. You see many, many times more of the Red Bird 45 than the Blue Cat one. Better record too IMO - but each to there own I suppose. Godz

Guest Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 (edited) there's a great story behind the only copies of Sidney Barnes I've known to be found. Bob Catteneo & Henry Mariano were on the East Coast and got into a huge load of 45s, that were put aside and waiting for John Anderson. John was "not pleased" and told me to tell Catteneo he left behind a copy of Sidney Barnes on Blue Cat! I told Bob and he said "Tell Mr. Anderson, he & Henry found 22 copies and they must have missed one!" goes without saying, I never passed the message back to John. But Sid Barnes on Blue Cat is seriously hard to find i'll gladly admit i've never ever found one out in the "field". We sold one last year for £300 without it getting listed to a regular customer who begged a little. We let it go far too cheap on reflection. But it was released on Red Bird, I've only ever seen a Photostat of the label in the 70s, sent to me by an American collector of the two labels. The Red Bird copy would be pretty priceless.. Ted did you have a bottle of wine last night by any chance?? Edited December 18, 2008 by john manship

Also, it's one thing to find a copy, but try finding one that plays perfect. I had a spare copy some years ago, looked clean but had that worn styrene sound, very muffled. Had the pleasure of talking to Sid Barnes down at the Dome when the Capital Soul Club had him sing there, he really is a nice fella. He was a bit overwhelmed by it all, but when he got up on stage he had a real nice time. That was a great night.
Godzilla Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Godz are you saying that the Red Bird issue is a different take than the Blue Cat outing of IHOTOS? Now I`m really confused Sorry, should have made my self more clear. I meant "Other Side", the Blue Cat 45 was tougher than the Red Bird 45 "You'll Always be in Style". And that I thought "Other Side" was the better tune. Sorry for the confusion. My old copy played lovely by the way
Guest POTTERIESPECK Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I SEE THAT SID DID A LOT OF WRITING IN THE 60'S FOR A FEW DETROIT LABELS AND WAS A MEMBER OF ROTARY CONNECTION, ONE OF THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE BAND WAS MINNIE RIPERTON. THE PERFORMED ON THE CADET LABEL

THE PERFORMED ON THE CADET LABEL He certainly did. Mr Barnes was the 'Si' of Geo-Si-Mik Productions. Geo rge Clinton Si dney Barnes Mik e Terry All three of them legends. The Blue Cat copy of IHOTOS I rate as hard to find. Have seen a couple over the last few yeras but both were trashed. £320. I'll take ten please.
