Anyone?

Somebody must have some info about this momentus piece of music, surely :)

Prodded by your awards post....this got plays in the late 60s as a new, or at least recent release, but disappeared in the 70s (too slow). It was definitely played at Stafford, though I couldn't pinpoint it to an individual DJ

I was first aware of this 45 at what I thought to be a late stage!

This was before Stafford, during the Rotherham Clifton Hall Days, when my buddy Sean Hampsey put me on to it.

I seem to remember Tim Ashibende having multiple copies of it on Volt at the time, priced at somewhere around £1.50, I seem to think it was?

I can't be certain but think Sean would have given it a spin or two around that period.

I also picked up a UK Stax demo of it for £3 at the same venue.

I know it wasn't until quite a lot later that it got more plays.

"I'm the one who loves you"

Anybody able to pin point when this first started to get turntable action and by whom.

Ta much.

Richard Searling played it in Wigan Casino allnighter, because I can remember dancing to it and thinking how good it was to hear it played loud in a venue!

You're dead right John.

It was my spin.

I first played it (constantly) at The Charade in the early / mid 70's and then right through afterwards.

It took some getting off the ground as it didn't really fit the Northern mould (like many of the tunes I was playing at the time) but by the time I was at the Windmill and White Greyhound etc. it had become a bit of a theme tune for me... so along with my other Charade/Windmill faves (Bobby Patterson / Brothers Guiding Light / Eddie Billups etc.) I started to hammer it at the Nighters - Clifton Hall etc and it went from there.

I rememeber you buying your Volt copy off Tim (upstairs in the alcove).

Bargain eh!

:(

Sean, Thanks for that.

In someways it doesn't surprise me that it was one of your spins, or at least from the period that you say.

It fits in with what I can believe was happening at the time. Magnificent piece of soul, but not quite right for the masses at the time. By the time I became aware of it, I was surprised that it hadn't been "discovered" earlier, given the stature of Darrell Banks as a Northern icon.

Just wonderful.
