What I mean is, a lot of , collectors of vinyl, will catalogue every thing they own, then, need to own the catalogue of a certain label/s so, there, catalogue is, then, complete. Then onto the next stable of labels..etc.
Whereas, a hell of a lot of people just collect vinyl on what they like themselves to dance to, or just to listen to....the old Cherry picker.(thats me).
I cherry pick, because i don't want the, extra expence of buying label numbers to fulfill a catalogue of some rather poo tunes....I can spend that money on the best track he/she/they recorded on whatever label.
I will hear a tune that i have not heard before, and then check out the artist/s discography. If at all possible, then on from there to even checking out the labels he/she/they had appeared on. With the aid oft'internet, sometimes it's possible to hear a track posted by somebody, somewhere in the world.
My argument for that recently is the Lloyd Price Oh Lady luck Monument........Thinkin, to myself, he must have recorded more on the label. I had a lottle search on the old lists and came up with "Don't cry".
I'm not saying i discovered it first, it will be known and possibly widely, but i didn't personally know it, oh and it's a cracker....so if you dont know it and like it soulful-RnB styly, get one. If you do,int it good!!
(has a little flavour of "pride and joy" about it, but much harder...imho).
So onto my point;
I would say I'm a dancin' collector..a cherry picker, that I'd enjoy hearing it in a club, and dancin too, (that includes everything down to beat ballads). Yet emphasising i love late 50's soulful-RnB, and all things pre disco!!(boooo, he's an ignoramus!!! he's a sixties mafia man!!).
bum tish bum tish bum tish bum tish bum tish....and wait here's another record mixed in the same beat um cack um cack um cack um cack um cack...(hey, that's another thread)
So what sort of collector are you, do you skip through the forrest picking the ripest cherries...or do you collect labal/stables or just acetates.....If you collect, whats your thing and how do you go about on your merry way, through the oceans of vinyl, ready to be plucked out, in to your keep net!!
