mikeysoul Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Anyone heard their 45? What do you think? Whammy/Double Whammy My mate recently won a copy on one of Mark Lamarr's radio shows (Lamarr is noted as the exec producer) & played it to me the other day. A great R&B 45 it is. Unfortunately, I can't find a soundbite of the vocal side (which I prefer), but you can hear the instrumental on his MySpace page From looking at his MySpace page & listening to some of the tracks they cover Boogie Woogie, Jump Blues and Rock & Roll. Some good tracks on the albums also (you can hear https://www.bigboybloater.com/shop.htm) Mike
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 "Whammy" is 100% as authentic sounding as anything that actually was recorded in the 1950s. If I didn't know better I would swear it was an outtake from the Ike Turner Kings Of Rhythm Federal sessions. It's marvellous stuff... Bloater and his band are terrific live, too - although you have to be sure to catch the right band, as he has two and one's more blues oriented than R & B.
mikeysoul Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Couldn't agree more Tony. when it was played to me first I was trying to name who it could be as it sounded so authentic. Unfortunately, my copy jumped so I am returning for a replacement, which will hopefully be ok. Mike

The fact that it's been cut hot with tight groove space does not help. Nor does the fact that it's pressed on wafer thin plastic... BTW it sounds dynamite as part of BBB's live set! TONY

Sorry for the shouting, left capslock on. But to be fair to the Bloater, he replaced it quickly and without fuss. Soon as I heard it I thought, gotta have a copy of that. Would go down well at any R&B venue in my opinion.
