Camberly, Surrey

Recommended Posts

What was the name of the tiny venue in Camberly, Surrey that we used to hang out at when not traveling north, west, east, or the ends of the world?

Do rem picking up the Aldershot coach there sometimes.

Also what were the names of everyone that used to take that coach?

Rem some:

- Ray and Ann from Kingston

- Kevin, Elaine (did they get married?)

- others from Bagshot, Guildford, Winchester, ...

And what a riot the driver was .. seem to rem he was doing it on the side .. did he get in trouble with his employer eventually? (sure was good at turning a blind eye when needed!).

Shades of Green was definitely the club in Camberley during the '70s. Think Terry Davis, Tony Ellis and Ian Clarke were DJs there.

Yes, yes .. I rem Tony and Ian .. I have a picture of them somewhere.

I rem driving to Yate with them once .. think it was Tony who would drive all the way up the Motorway in the center lane ... "less chance of hitting the sides"

Hmmm ... kinda rings a bell, but I'm not certain .. it was right on the A30 at the western end of town center .. I remember it was upstairs (maybe above a shop front).

Cant remember quite where it was!! only lived down there from 81 - 85!!! moved down just after wigan shut, but I sure my b'friend of the time said it went from there - because he used to run them........ I know Shades of Green was a venue in the 70's....

Shades of Green - what a great place that was - small, seedy, only place i've ever been with the gents at corner of dance floor! Terry Davies, Kim Gold, Mike Ritson, Tony Ellis etc, all playing top sounds at the time - many before they made it up north. Spent many a happy  Friday night there mid 70s. My avatar on here is myself, Tony & Derek who ran the coaches driven by Ken to Wigan.

Happy Days indeed!!!!

Alan

Pic of self, Tony Ellis & Roland, at Shades, Oct 1974 - i think!!

I was that Tony Ellis and I deny ever giving a lift to a Haddock or any other type of fish for that matter and furthermore, I've always preferred the inside lane, although I may have ventured into one of the other lanes on a couple of occasions in order to overtake Jon Buck on his moped. :P

There you go speaking in riddles again...do I take it that you meant that Derek was wearing a blue shirt at Stoke...if so how do you expect me to remember that when I can't recall what happened yesterday...or today come to think of it...what I meant was is Derek in that pic above (post no 7 as you most eloquently put it) and if so which one is he? Was just thinking where's said blue shirt in the pic...been puzzling over that for a while lol

Re Heather Dann...in a word... no no.gif:yes:

Reading...I bet our paths have crossed back in the day...the Southern connection...North meets South via Wigan lol

I'm sure they did - maybe at Wigan, but probably at Yate. I lived in Cheltenham at the time. Hope to get down to Bisley some time soon.

Agincourt was the larger occasional venue, Shades the smaller regular do.

Ray Lyons & Heather Dan both still living local, but not really on the scene,

having said that Ray pops into Dereks record shop in Aldershot occasionally.

Sorry for the confusion on the pics. The actual photo on post no.7 is Tony Ellis, myself & Roland - so no Mick it wasn't one of those fancy dress do's! Derek is in light blue shirt in pic under my name etc, along with Tone, self & Sue Brick.

Clear as mud eh?!!

I thought it was all very striaght forward, obviously the blue shirt is Derek, unless your called Jill, of course, who always confuses the issue. As for Mick, I think a new pair of glasses for Christmas would be useful..............

Yes that one was called the Wooden Bridge but the Plaza went W A Y W A Y back, reckon 1969-ish

latest I was not quite 16 (I was dating an 18 year old girl from a local Guildford council estate meethinks Belfields - was long time ago). Very much sta-press, Harringtons, plaincaps era
