Not sure if thats a good term for it but hey, it does it for me. I seem to have loads of records that have lyrics that talk about the social/political environment of the late 60's/70's. Listening to them now, it makes me realise how little the world has really progressed! For example:

Love this theme Paul, its a huge part of the black experience, I think I heard or read it termed as PROTEST music somewhere, examples being in particular:- Norman Whitfields psychadelic era stuff "Ball of confusion" "Cloud nine" and "Message from a Black man" and "Smilin Faces" particularly brilliantly done by the Temps also "Ship ahoy" from the Ojays and as illustrated by Jock on here they don,t come any more politically motivated than Gil Scott Heron, one to add from him is the brilliant "B Movie" which tears to bits his favourite target Ronald Reagan. Also worthy of a mention is Johnny Little,s "Gonna get that boat" on Minit.

Yes, Gil Scott is one of the motivators...Home Is Where The Hatred Is and the ultra political 'Bicentenial Blues'.....PROTEST music for sure. As I said, not much in the world has changed!
