Kev Moore Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Just thought as the ballads thread seems to be doing so well. And not knowing if this has been done recently as I'm a fairly new member. What about favourite mid tempo/ballad album tracks. Now I know that lots of folk are 45 only kinda people but most have a few hidden lp gems somewere and I suspect that a lot have lots. Any chance of sharing them? C'mon folks I'll start with the first five. Shirley Brown-When you really love somebody-Arista The New Sound-Everybody wants to be free-Turbo/P-Vine Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers-Who Are You-Source Anita Ward-Cover Me-TK The Moments-Lady in Blue-Stang.

Seems Funny but most album track "goodies" fall into the modern soul bracket maybe its cos 45's were the common denominator in the 60's So for me its got to be Aint no need Ralph Graham Sussex Why must our eyes be always turned backwards Lou Bond It aint worth getting up in the morning Johnny Taylor John

Guest Beeks Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Clyde McPhatter - Anyone Can Tell We're In Love Brilliant
Paul-s Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Hi Paul Didn't know you did the album trail. Nina Simone's version of House of the rising sun is also awesome. builds and builds into a crazy thingymijiggy. Yes, I do albums. Usually take them to dj with and cant see a bloody thing behind the decks.... , so dont get played. In touch with Oscar, saw him last month...back in Vienna now.
Kev Moore Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Seems Funny but most album track "goodies" fall into the modern soul bracket maybe its cos 45's were the common denominator in the 60's So for me its got to be Aint no need Ralph Graham Sussex Why must our eyes be always turned backwards Lou Bond It aint worth getting up in the morning Johnny Taylor John I don't think that's a fair comment as there's lots of 60's album tracks that have 'goodies' i. e. Leon Haywood 'Got to be mellow' or The Metros 'Do the Pied Piper'. The Shades of Blue 'A Way to Love' All phonomenal tunes. But you're probably right in the respect that albums in the black record market were not compiled in large amounts until later in the sixties, with the probable exception of the bigger soul labels like Stax and Motown. But surely Wand/Capitol/RCA/WB and others had there share of the market. Anyone got any more info please? Kev
Gail Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Yes, In work too and the titles are a bit hazy It only happens when I look at you Aretha Franklin (NOW) It's from the "You" album :-) . Lovely version of "I'm not strong enough to love you" on this too.
Kev Moore Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 It's from the "You" album :-) . Lovely version of "I'm not strong enough to love you" on this too. I haven't come across that one yet-but Aretha has done so many good songs-one of my favourites lately has been 'I'm in love'. Kev

Ian D Hey Ian I was reading the Pinnacle thread and you seem to know a bit about the business. I've read 'Death of Rhythm' & Blues and 'The History of Stax records' etc etc but could do with more info. What would be the market coverage of say a The Tempests, Maxine Brown, Chuck Jackson or Garnet Mimms album as opposed to The Miracles or The Tams etc. Any ideas??? Cheers Kev
Suzannek Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 One particular track that I love is "He Don't Care About Me" from Smokey Robinson & The Miracles "I'll Try Something New Album (1962). Suz x
