Just heard mr winstanley on the dave gilmour show on radio lancs, plugging anything he can , the unissued motown box set 100 tracks ,which he selected, the feature film to be made next year based on the play at the octagon theatre., the shopping centre soul extravaganza, and a follow up to his book .And the casino of course got mentioned in every sentance, 4 million visitors blaa blaa. got a bit concerned when he said duffy and amy winebottle were northern!! Some people seem dead set on reaching a wider audience WHY? I know its better than working for a living but please give it a rest It closed ,it burned down , its a shopping centre.If someone wants to get into soul , they'll find it . personally im not the slightest bit bothered about recruiting a new generation of customers, sorry,soul fans. Have i got it wrong?

In fairness to the guy he's just trying to earn a living best way he know's how. He is no longer relevant to the current 'scene', and I think that's the answer to your question. He can't sell it to us so he has no choice other than to focus on a wider audience.

TBH thats a very fair comment, my only gripe is that whenever Russ is on any Media source whatsoever he ALWAYS has to mention (and Play) Frank Wilson...... But Russ - there was more to 8 years of one of the best Nothern Soul venues ever than 'Do I Love You', this track has now passed on - it is no more - it has ceased to be - it's expired and gone to meet it's maker - this is a 'late' record - it's a stiff!, bereft of life it rests in peace - this is an 'EX' Northern soul Record!!"........

thats because 27 years later nothing can compare with it .sad but true !!! just my opinion i can think of worse people making money out of this scene in far worse ways ......roberts and bootlegs spring to mind !!!! blackpool horible tower another
