Pretty popular, pretty expensive but not very rare: Harlem Rumble

Not as popular, yet cheaper and rarer than Harlem Rumble: Chaumonts - Now you've gone

My fave instrumental at the moment isn't particularly rare etc etc but i'm loving it

Willie Mitchell - Young People

Driving beat and a top record IMO...only paid a fiver for it too

One of them niter sounds which just didnt sound right when played in the privacy of home....You Had To Be At A Niter to hear it played well... ...Delxxx

I'd imagine that "Double Cookin" would be at or near the top of any list like this...

I'm afraid I disagree, had two copies of Harlem Rumble myself and seen it listed every there and then, yet it took me 5 years to get a copy of the Chaumonts and I've only ever seen one other copy anywhere.

But anyway, Tough girl or Michigan Move are far better examples for rare instrumentals...

There are many great instrumentals but the ones that stand out for me are:-

Boogie Man Orchestra - Lady Lady Lady - Boogie Man.

Earl Wright Orchestra - Thumb a ride - Capitol.

Bob & Earl Band - My Little Girl - Mirwood.

Sidra Strings - Sidra's Theme - Sidra.

5 of Kind - The Other side - Sidra.

Regards

Alan

Think i've got this right...Strings a go go- Bob Wilson Orchestrea.....wicked stomping instramental!!!...Delxxxx

Michigan Move if remember rightly taken from master tapes, loads of takes on it.

Rarity wise Carl Fortnum's Bell Sound acetate (??) that he plays out as Frank Foster? sure its an instrumental :g:

Del, this is Simon Soussan's bootleg title (and artist) for the aforementioned "Double Cookin'"....

I would have thought by now somebody would have suggested the greatest ever instrumental, which in my opinion is....

"Exus Trek"

And whilst I am it, what about...

"Rat race"

"Festival time"

"6 by 6"

Not at all rare or expensive but I love Liberty - Girl you better wake up - BASF, it's so uplifting.

Also enjoy Harry Betts - Theme from the fantastic Plastic machine - Epic

Yes, Dalton Boys "Something's bothering you" on VIP - the other side "I've been cheated" got spins as well but "SBY" always rates as one of my faves

Edited by Jerry Hipkiss

Two, I'm currently playing that are tremendous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Stokes - Fortune teller - Unissued Alon

Guys From Uncle - Like A Good Girl Should - Unissued Swan

Des Parker

I've always been fond of "California Montage" by the Young Holt Unlimited.

It's a real swirling melody laden instrumental and insanely uplifting.
