Just laid on the sofa last night chilling and texting my mates. My son was watching ITV's HERE COME THE BOYS and on comes SEAL!!!

Always thought he was a great performer, which on this occasion is a bit of an understatement.

He sang the James Brown classic IT'S A MAN'S, MAN'S WORLD which just happens to be one of my all time faves, and it absolutely blew me away!!!! :g::lol:

AWESOME!!!

Totally different arrangement, but brilliant all the same!!!

If I'm being honest, the fact that Seal is pretty damn sexy might've helped a tad, lol!!!

If anyone knows if this track is on one of his albums, please post a reply as it's a must for my Crimbo pressie list!!!

I find it a bit disappointing that anyone who has Elmore James as their avatar can have anything positive to say about Seal, who's little more than a glorified karaoke-ist...

Agreed, same with Tom Jones, Duffy, Amy Winehouse & all the other wannabes, stick to the real stuff is my best advice...

Why you would want to listen to Seal when you've got James Brown is beyond my comprehension.

You can like what you want Wolfie but i have noticed an observation on here as i have out in the real world also & that is namely my fave subject of 'Dumbing down of Northern Soul/Soul'.

There seem to be a fair few people who suddenly see Duffy in the same light as Etta James, Seal is now the new James Brown & who needs Nina Simone when you've got Amy Winehouse.

I just find it a tad depressing that some peeps are happy to accept second or even third best.

For once Simon i'm in complete agreement

C'mon Simon, at no point did jobbo say she preferred it to the original & obviously far superior James Brown, but she is surely allowed to like it at the same time? She certainly never likens Seal to James Brown or Duffy to Etta James or demeans Northern Soul/Soul in any way - plus she obviously wants to make the beast with two backs with the fella, which can drastically effect your tastes in many things - I for one went out with a German Goth once ph34r.gif

(still thought the music was pure shite though)

Hiya Wolfie,

You're quite correct Jobbo didn't say that she preferred that version, tis true, s'pose i'm speaking more generically, i've just noticed in recent times people on here & out in Soul world seem to be quite happy & even enthused to listen to immitators.

I've even heard of people playing this stuff out at NS dos which i definitely don't get.

Each to their own 'an all that i s'pose, i listen to some stuff that some people would consider musically a lot worse than Seal but then that stuff doesn't pretend to be Soul.

Jesus H Christ!!!! Certainly didn't think my post would cause all this fuss!!!

Just thought it was a great performance of a classic tune that's all. I find it interesting to hear different versions of songs and this one was pretty damn good IMO!!! No big deal, to me anyway!!!!

Thanks to Cunnie for the info. thumbsup.gif

I'll leave the rest of you to 'debate' amongst yourselves!!!

For what it's worth Jobbo I agree with your post. I thought it was a great performance as well. Why the hell the thread gets pulled in other directions is a bit of a mystery to me.

Blimey !!

genuine question about Seal,

staright up answer from Cunnie

and a whole load of debate aboute the merits or validity of Seal.

Yep I know is a forum for debate etc etc but sometimes there is no need whatsover,

I was going to ask if anybody liked the new Incognito release but to be honest the stick I would get makes it not worth it.

Personally ,I think he ,s a half decent singer but think his latest LP will have been recorded with the same degree of cynicism /opportunism as all the rest of the soulalikes currently out there
