Frank Dell is Big Frank and the Essences on Philips and Blue Rock, both part of Mercury. Not sure what the Starflower record is.

I always thought that the essences guy was the same guy as big frank murphy on phillips. I thought so just because it was another "big frank" on the same label and also because he has the same deep voice (which also does sound like frank dell). Did you talk to Frank and did he confirm that he was the essences guy? if so, is he also "big frank murphy"?

He is Bob and The Essences is his brother Warren. Frank sang all these songs at Cleethorpes this year when he performed with some fiends of our's doing the backing vocals and you could see why they call him Big Frank.

A charming shy man with vocal chords not far off your Jimmy Ricks.

I have the LP must listen to more tracks.

There's a great pic of Big Frank & The Essences in the Mercury 2CD set "The Blue Rock Story" which confirms visually and absolutely that he's Frank Dell. I have a feeling, too, that his real name's Franklin Delano (hence 'Frank Dell') Murphy....

That's the one.

Starflower was Phil Medley's publishing company so he really means Valise when he says Starflower.

does anyone here have a nice (300dpi or better) scan of the big frank and the essences photo (not scanned from the booklet, scanned from the original)? I have a lot of photos to trade. Did the CD have a fads photo by any chance? the fads guy I know doesn't have a fads photo (only a photo of a doowop group he was in that recorded) and he would love to get a fads photo. I have a vv and the superbs photo which is insane, to put it nicely, they are not a very good looking group.
