The youth are back on the northern scene

I'm 46 and still rightly or wrongly consider myself young on the soul scene. At the various events I attend there are more bald heads than with hair (and I don't just mean the blokes. Ha). Thing is, its never really bothered me when people say "its all coming to an end, there's no young ones coming into the scene bar one or two of our own children who have been brain washed".

As old as we are everyone gives it hell on the dance floor as the memories come flooding back. There is one thing though !!! Please stop wearing baggies as they look crap on you. We always looked smart and sharp in the old days why stop now.

Getting back to my main point about the youth, I have had a house in Spain (Valencia) for six years now. I often wondered should I go full time what would I do about my records, Soul nights etc. I have over the last 6 months found a soul scene to compare to the old days. Its over there, These young men and women are in their 20's /30's . They dress and act just as we did in the old days. I have been the only Brit in a room with over 150 people in it. As for the music it's as good if not better than ours. Top collectors are over there paying big money for quality tunes. They have three allnighters a year which are advertised on this site, the last was excellent so give it a go.

They talk all the time about Wigan Casino etc, and watch every bit of footage that's on the internet. They are true soul fans.

So the message is don't despair, the faith will live on. It just might mean we get a sun tan as well as bad back after attending a soul night.

Yes I agree alot are mod's , similar to ours in the way they dress etc. However most people I caught up with are purely Northern Soul fans.

Great innit ! So refreshing and nice to know that the Spanish are doing the businness out there !

And Its great that a lot are into the Skin/Suede/Mod style IMO !

Yeah ........... Nice Weather, Good Events with a young stylish crowd , great food n wine ! You can ride your Scooter most of the year !

Went to a few dos there in 2000/2001. Had a great time. I think Irish Greg and Mick Smith Djed along with the locals and Edu Domingo from Barca.

I loved what I experienced of the Spanish Soul scene when I was there.

Fantastic scene and great people.

No offence to the older wiser Soul fan but the enthusiasm of youth brings a vitality to the scene and I experienced that in abundance in Spain.

Yes there is a world of soul out there.. I have made it a mission to travel and try out soul nights all over the Europe and Oz/ America too... Its great to get some culture/ sight seeing and a good dose of rare soul, what more could you want... Not been to Valencia event yet but gonna make the effort soon, i know that Dani and Valencia/ Spanish have the passion indeed plus the tunes to back it up....The scene is pretty healthy for me, its just that you have to make the effort sometimes to try pastures new if you have the time/ energy or if family/work life lets you..

You also need an open mind too with regards to what you want from your soul ....

A plug too for Christian who runs Soulastatic in Sweden.. Had a fantastic time there last weekend... A packed club, young up for it crowd who danced to rare soul.... Now thats what i call a weekend...
