Jumpinjoan Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 For the sheer amount of incredible all nighter tunes he wrote, coupled with the fact that he was without doubt one of the sweetest, most genuine and humble people I have ever met, for me, it has to be Richard Popcorn Wylie.
Zed1 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 For the sheer amount of incredible all nighter tunes he wrote, it has to be Richard Popcorn Wylie. I'd go along with that....

Benji Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 hm, never really took noticed of who wrote my fave tunes but will do in the future. Not in soul music, but in general the best songwriters were Bacharach/David. Period.
Kev Cane Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 who was the best song writer of our wonderful music we all enjoy There were some great writing teams out there at the time who consistently churned out the music we love, examples being :- Wylie/ Hester Gamble/Huff Mcfadden/Whitehead Holland/Dozier/Holland Hutson/Hawkins Whitfield/Strong Callier/Stepney Hayes/Porter all of the above wrote a number of gems, I am sure someone can compile another list of teams, then you have the likes of Leon Ware, Frankie Beverley, Marvin Gay, Smokey Robinson and the list goes on, but I am going to plump for the aforementioned SAM DEES as (twist my arm) my fave Kev
Spacehopper Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 just beat me mentioning gamble/huff......what about mr womack....he scribbled a few good ones too !
Spacehopper Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 oh and musically speaking ray charles and stevie wonder were both genius's (grammer ?).... my brother plays sax and he says learning some of stevies later stuff was a nightmare, you could make half a dozen songs out of the riffs in one of his ...
