pow wow mik Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I know this oldie was released on grapevine late 70s but Manship has it listed on Omack. Is that the original US release and how rare / valuable is it? cheers, mik

pikeys dog Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Quite rare at a guess, don't recall ever seeing one tbh. Although demand is probably low as "These Boots" stinks worse than a $5 Crack whores undercrackers.
Harry Crosby Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Just a thought did DESTROY THAT BOY the other side of TBAMFW on grapevine get a release like that track
pikeys dog Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Different side listed on the U.S. issue.

As for the record i think it was a play from Wigan that didn't last long
Harry Crosby Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Different side listed on the U.S. issue. Yeh don`t think ive seen a destroy that boy anyone
pow wow mik Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 I like it, great ramsey lewis style mod track imo. I understand people not liking it though and can live with it. hope that might save people some time posting to say how shit it is. thanks for the info.
Mach Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 i remember it being played at wigan in the late 70s..when instros were popular, and it got well received
Jumpinjoan Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 (edited) Yeh don`t think ive seen a destroy that boy anyone As far as I know it only came out on Grapevine Harry. Could be wrong though, it has been known Edited November 26, 2008 by jumpinjoan
Jumpinjoan Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 ---- got the uk and us of this ..picked the omack copy for £30 from john manship... as someone said sounded good at wigan when in vogue maybe better if there were no words....er maybe not destroy that boy - a great tune imo Destroy that Boy on Omack? Well I never knew that!
Wiganer1 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Destroy that Boy on Omack? Well I never knew that! ----- no sorry joan ,,destroy not on import..
Harry Crosby Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 As far as I know it only came out on Grapevine Harry. Could be wrong though, it has been known yeh thats the way i understood it joan, as i say never heard of a release
Weingarden Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 i'm lucky enough to have an acetate that came from ollie mclaughlin of another unreleased version of "destroy that boy" that stomps all over this one. far as i know the one discussed above was unreleased too till it came out on grapevine. omack was o(llie) mack(laughlin)'s label. you can hear what i think is the superior version here: https://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/19632

I have to say I prefer the other version - but it's always great to hear different takes. Great stuff!

pow wow mik Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 (edited) that 'destroy my boy' is nice too..making the Grapevine the preferable release...but then if i played 'these boots' i'd be playing a re-issue. what a quandry Although Mr Finewines acetate is a lot better for me, more mod sounding i suppose so more my cuppa. Proper belter in fact, cheers for that Matt, i'd missed that one, you selling it? Edited November 26, 2008 by mik parry
pikeys dog Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 UK first issue Mik, Same as playing any Kent Anniversary 45 i.m.o.
pow wow mik Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 UK first issue Mik, Same as playing any Kent Anniversary 45 i.m.o. i wouldn't play them if they're already issued. you could say stuff like the Jazzman 45s are first uk issues as they're legit, but they're just re-issues to me. Anyway, you'll just be happy I've got 'These boots...' so you get go-go dancing! Sorry, there's a magnetic force always pulling me towards cheese!
pikeys dog Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 You bring the Mouse ears and i'll bring the supersize trap....
Weingarden Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 no, not selling either the ten-inch metal acetate or the seven-inch vinyl i pressed up to dj with, mik! i think we can all agree that the worst version of "destroy that boy" is by the what four on capitol...appears on that rhino girl group box of a few years ago.
Harry Crosby Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 So back to this then, where did the HAPPY CATS-DESTROY THAT BOY track originate from, is it a studio tape/acetate?
Guest Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 where did the HAPPY CATS-DESTROY THAT BOY track originate from, is it a studio tape/acetate? Good question for John Anderson or Richard Searling! Would be great if it was a USA relesase, but I think it would have turned up, after all the years since its Grapevine release.
